I love escape rooms, and after playing so many worldwide, I'm always looking for something new. With that said, I had the pleasure of visiting Escape2Win last month (April). The outside and the lobby are reminiscent of a movie theater, which adds a nice touch to the atmosphere.
Our gamemaster, Gray, was so personable and a pleasure to work with. It's safe to say that most escape room players would agree that the gamemaster can make or break your experience. Gray was attentive and patient and made sure we had a great experience.
My group and I played and escaped three games back to back, namely "Scene of the Crime," "Lunar Lockdown," and "The Attic." Compared to other escape rooms, the rooms themselves were similar to other games we've played. Of the three, "The Attic" was the most frustrating. Without giving away anything, it was frustrating primarily because of the lighting or lack thereof. If the light that was supposed to work had worked, it might have made it more enjoyable. If you're super sensitive to spirits or being in the dark, I would not recommend "The Attic." "Scene of the Crime" is like most detective games I've played. While we did escape the room, we definitely overthought a lot of things. "Lunar Lockdown" was fun once we got started. The first puzzle was easy to figure out, but then I felt like there was an "okay, where do we go from here now" moment, which costs time.
Overall, would I recommend Escape2Win? Yes. Of all the rooms we've played in the Virginia Beach Area, this one had to be the third, maybe second-best. Please note that parking is available, and the rooms are private, so no random people will be...
Read moreGhostly Encounter: great aesthetic and atmosphere. They did a really great job setting the mood and adding nice little surprises that you don’t get from some other escape rooms. I’ve been to several others in the area that have more than just traditional locks and puzzles, and this is one of them. So in case you were wondering if this is going to be a cheap and boring room, don’t worry-it’s not. However, I do have some very minor issues that we experienced today, but all are easily fixable. #1, I had a tough time reaching the business via phone. I understand COVID has made a lot of businesses cut down on certain things, but I do think having a proper form of communication other than email should not be compromised. #2, there was a technical issue with the room at one point. We had to stop our timer and a technician came in and had to fix it for us. It wasn’t really upsetting as much as it was just something that ruined the atmosphere when it happened. Again, they did such a great job setting everything up, and for that to happen just felt like a huge disappointment. I feel we should have been compensated or something at least for that. It was an issue on the end of the business, and our experience was not as good as it could have been because of it. Again, all these things can easily be fixed, and if they are, this would be a tremendously fun experience. As it is now, it’s right in between good and great. And with a little effort, this can be one of the premier escape rooms...
Read moreEscape room was pretty fun except towards the end, we were in the expedition room and we couldn’t find the last thing we needed, so we began looking around and one of the panels was loose on the wall and so I barely touched it and it started coming down and the employee got mad at me and said do not touch the walls or anything on them in an agressive tone (we fixed it btw no harm done), so we sat there looking around for another 10 minutes until they told us to check the inside of something, that was on the wall… and you had to literally either take it off or put ur hand inside of to get the last clue out, and then afterward the employee made petty jokes saying that “oh at least someone was cautious” and as we were leaving “I guess I have to go fix the wall now” which was really obnoxious and 1. No one laughed but him, and 2. It sorta ruined the experience. Weird behavior from the employee that sorta killed the mood, as well as contradicting that they don’t want you touching the wall while having clues on the walls or inside of objects on the wall, doesn’t really make sense but, mostly just mad at the employee rather than the escape...
