Stopped by for a scheduled birthday celebration in February put on by my friends (party of ~9). We had a great time, and the staff were pretty well equipped to show us how to throw axes. The food and drinks may a little pricey, but it is VB and an axe-throwing venue so... sort-of niche market in one of the tourist capitals of VA calls for it.
Moving on to some criticisms, the monitoring staff (while knowledgeful and helpful when needed) seemed to want to help too much, like interrupting throwing to single out patrons who are not great at throwing axes to take time to teach them proper form. I get that one wants to help, but some of us did not really care to throw with proper form, and just wanted to release some stress. Continued forced instruction and not being able to read patron context drew much of our time away from throwing axes to watch roving monitors throw perfect axe after axe, which ate into our reserved time considerably. I don't want to lean to heavily into the term "power-tripping," but after a while and as time ticked down, the showboating really got under our skin.
Next, the militant abrasiveness of the frontend staff was quite jarring to walk in to after entering the business. There was no courtesy or hospitality in their communications with us, or even indifference, which really took us all aback at first. We aren't soft or tiny-hearted, but we did wonder why the abject hostility in trying to get us to sign waivers and finish paying for the reservation was necessary. I believe that the ladies who took care of us took themselves and the business too seriously, which isn't too great counted that the business is comparable to a trampoline park in waiver and target audience; a place where adults and youth can come together for mindless fun and exercise, with food and drinks available at request. It seemed like the staff we encountered had a lot going on in their personal or business lives, so I give them the benefit of the doubt.
I would return here again, as the process of gaining admission is pretty streamlined, the monitoring and wait staff were friendly and eager to help. Its decently priced, and you would only have to deal with the militant frontend cashiers only once. All around, a great 3/5 for Tribal Axe. First...
Read moreWas debating between 2 and 3 stars. My friends surprised me with axe throwing for my birthday. Sara our axe throwing coach was great- she was fun, nice, and knowledgeable. Dakota the bartender was also wonderful. For being the only bartender/ server he did so well and he was Very nice- made a great Wisconsin manhattan. However, the girl at the front desk wasn’t friendly- it was our first time there, she didn’t make you feel welcome and wasn’t helpful. At one point we had to tell her we hadn’t been there before so she would stop being annoyed with questions/ not knowing what exactly we had to do. My husband got there later than the party, she argued with him about what time we started and then didn’t applogize after she was wrong. She also snapped at him for not knowing he had to sign the liability waiver online (we had a party of 10- he didn’t sign us up, and again never been there before). Not a good first impression.
The young security guy was also very rude. Our group just had a great time axe throwing and we’re sitting at the bar/restaurant having some drinks. My friend was holding the tablet and I guess she held it a little too long so the security guy came up to her and said something like they were really busy she needed to hurry up then walked away. This embarrassed my friend and was so rude. We were shocked at how unprofessional it was to the point another friend of mine went and said something to him. Needless to say, we got our checks and took our business elsewhere. A few rude and unprofessional people can really ruin an entire experience. My family heard what I was doing and wanted to go- now I will be thinking of taking...
Read moreCame here on a Sunday right when they opened. We had a group of 5 people and wanted to practice on two lanes. But because we were all together they only let us use 1 lane. My brother asked if we could use two lanes and they told us no but if we would of came in separate groups they would have given us two lanes so the lady at the front argued with my brother saying that we could only have one lane even though she did admit that if we were in separate groups we would have gotten two lanes. When you pay per person and get a limited time that is a rip off. Half the time we are sitting there waiting for the next person to go. Meanwhile the whole place was empty and there were 5 empty sections next to us on side of the building we were on. So while our group was practicing on the one lane that we were given, I threw a couple practice shots on the empty lane next to us just to be scolded with an attitude by the rude bartender (brunette with glasses) who might I add was rude with a bad attitude from the very beginning. All in all the experience sucked and the women that work there were rude with bad attitudes. Will not be coming back.
In response to the owner: Our group never requested projection lanes. We just wanted two lanes next to each other. Which there were unused lanes next to one another the whole time we were there that were...
