This is just another gorgeous fall along the Columbia River gorge. You can see some of it at the base. But best to hike up about a quarter of a mile. .25 miles. You can see some of the river as it comes down thru the bushes and trees and rocks. If you hike up the .25 Mike's to the bridge, you get a gorgeous view of the falls. If you are doing photography, be prepared for the mist. Take image from the left side of the falls a littlw bit back. You will be outside the mist. Images also from the right If you are a little bit back. But love the images I got right by the bridge on the right side. Yea mist from the fall. You can keep hiking and find fairy falls. Next time I will do that hike. This is worth the time. If coming from Portland take the Bridal Veil Falls exit and keep going on historic route 30 for about 2.5 miles. There is a good amount of parking and a picnic area and bathrooms. If you keep going another mile or 2 you will hit...
Read moreToday, May 3rd, 2016. Mostly overcast with short periods of sun. My sister and I hiked Wahkeena trail up and over, then down to Multnomah falls overlook and Lodge. everything was do-able but the very rocky trail did give us pain in the feet. Also, It would be great if there were clearer direction signs that included direction and mileage between Wahkeena falls and Multnomah falls/lodge. And I dont mean road mileage, but trail mileage. I had to use Google Maps on my phone to take the correct path at trail intersections. One disappointing trend which we found unacceptable was the litter left behind by fellow hikers. We carried out plastic water bottles, candy wrappers, drink cups and orange peels left behind, or tossed into the woods by others. There needs to be reminders of the "leave no trace" policies which real hikers live by. Stop leaving your trash on our trails and if you can't, stay home! Other than these annoyances , the hike was fantastic and would...

0.2 miles to the Wahkeena falls and you can leave your car in this lot and walk over in the trails to the FAMOUS Multnomah Falls in 0.5 miles.
I would only recommend going up to Wahkeena Falls for folks that can climb or get on their hands and knees. During the winter, the water freezes over the rock causing it to be very slippery, so please be careful!
It's a short uphill walk, but Wahkeena is beautiful giving you a close up view. If you're a first timer to this trail of wonderful waterfalls, go see em' all. It doesn't take very long at all.
As for the trail to Multnomah Falls, it is located at the base; so make sure to head back from Wahkeena Falls back to the parking lot. The trail is beautiful and goes along the old highway without the danger of getting run over by a speeding car. The walk is EASY and only 0.5 miles!
PS. don't litter along the trail,...
