Afghan Market — Attraction in West Boylston

ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE!!!

We were excited to support a newly opened Afghan grocery store and spent hundreds of dollars during our visit. We purchased a wide variety of groceries, two pressure cookers, and a good amount of meat. At the time, we left happy and hopeful that we had found a new go-to store in our community.

However, when we later cooked the meat, we noticed it was not clean-cut as we had requested, it was extremely fatty and of noticeably poor quality. One of the pressure cookers also came with the wrong lid. These were small issues, and we were still willing to support the store. My mom kindly called the store to share this feedback, not to complain, but to offer advice for improvement and to suggest a simple exchange of the pot lid.

What happened next was beyond shocking: the owner himself swore at my mom and told her, "This is why we don’t like Afghan trash like you." He continued with verbal abuse and then hung up on her. This wasn’t a worker, this was the owner of the store.

As a community member, I feel deeply disappointed and hurt. No customer deserves to be disrespected, especially not in such a hateful and discriminatory way. We wanted to support a fellow Afghan business, but this experience was the opposite of what we expected. Good customer service is key to success, and if you can’t handle feedback with respect and maturity, you shouldn’t be in this field.

I was really excited about this new store mainly because of Halal meats and other goods, we purchased some chicken, streak and ribs that we were looking forward to eating, but unfortunately it reeked of chemical like smells, once thawed, it could easily be shredded by hand(which is a sign of meat being thawed over and over and soaked in chemicals)! I can’t tell you how disappointed we were since we traveled a bit to get there and back. I couldn’t call the store directly since there is no phone number or email for that matter. Consuming any type of chemically processed or poorly handled meats is a serious problem that could effect people’s health! I urge you to do better for your customers!
