I recently had the pleasure of visiting Humboldt (Alexander Von) Park, and I can confidently say that it is one of the most delightful and well-maintained urban parks I've ever been to. The lush greenery, beautifully landscaped gardens, and diverse wildlife make it a true haven in the windy city of Chicago.
One of the park's standout features is the variety of walking trails, each offering unique views and experiences. The trails cater to all fitness levels, making it perfect for families, joggers, or those just looking for a leisurely stroll. Along the way, you'll come across quaint benches and picnic spots, ideal for relaxing and taking in the park's natural beauty.
The park is also home to several well-equipped playgrounds that cater to different age groups, ensuring hours of fun for children. Additionally, the park is pet-friendly, and there is a designated off-leash area for dogs to play and socialize freely.
What really sets Humboldt Park apart, though, is its commitment to environmental education and awareness. The park hosts various workshops and events throughout the year, aimed at fostering a love for nature and conservation among visitors.
Humboldt Park is an exceptional urban oasis that offers an unparalleled experience for all visitors. I highly recommend spending a day here, whether you're a Chicago local or a tourist. You will not be disappointed! Five stars...
Read moreI took a walk through Humboldt Park on my last day in Chicago trying to walk away the stress and anxiety of a crazy year. A good walk can cure a lot.
It was the first time on my trip I was able to really take a breath. I only had 3 days in this beautiful city, and much of this was spent filming myself eating. I hate filming myself eating in restaurants as it just feels so invasive, but I love the creative process of writing, editing, and highlighting good local businesses. Sometimes I wish I could just write and not do videos as my soul is in the writing, but it's not the 1980s anymore.
I have a "what am I doing with my life" at least once a day, but then I always bring it back to that J.Cole lyric from 2009: "Nobody to blame but myself cause I asked for this..." Real.
Humboldt Park is lowkey in need of some TLC, but it also gives it character. The grass is overgrown and there's a good amount of litter on the grounds, but almost in an endearing way. It felt gritty. A park for locals as opposed to tourists. I really connected with it.
It's been open since 1877, and I can't help but wonder what it could say if it could talk. It's seen so much. An abundance of history in these 207 acres... I love Chicago.

Read moreThis is one of the largest parks in the city. I love a block away and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else primarily because of this park. It has trails all around and through, playgrounds and soccer fields and baseball diamonds, tennis courts etc. Anything you want in a park is here and they've made improvements in the management of the park with wildflower/prairie gardens and just generally better maintenance.
I love the formal garden which is seasonally planted with lovely flowers and plants. They've fixed most of the broken down railings and bridges throughout the park. I find it safe enough to take my family out for an evening stroll after dark including my now 8 and 10 year olds but we've been doing this for years. The southern end of the park is more lively which seems like mostly just people having a good time, but I would avoid it at night just in case, esp with the kids. The ponds and other water features are nice and it has a great sledding hill.
I could go on, but suffice to say, it's not the Humboldt park of yesteryear where some of my old head friends are shocked that I would enter the park or live anywhere near it. It's a very nice place to...
