This is a great park located in West Hartford. There were parking available when we went. There is a pond with a ton of geese. The playground was in good shape and big. There's a big kids playscape with climbing and ladders. The little kids playground had a sandbox, swings, slides, tunnels, etc. There were benches and picnic tables as well. The pool and splash pad is adjacent and fenced in; to enter the pool, there is a fee. The splash pad has benches and a grassy area to put your stuff down. The restrooms were clean and there was a Little Free Library right near there. What I loved about the park was the ample amount of shade. Definitely a fun place to take the kids in the summer.

This pool gradually gets deep from it starting at 0'0", and has a separation between that and the deep end, so it is safer for smaller babies. It is cold water but you get used to it. No inflatables or noodles allowed, we found out the hard way. But they provide life vests of all sizes. Residents pay less then non residents. Babies up to 2 years old are free. They have separate changing rooms for men and women, and they have a family changing room. There are good picnic spots, a sprinkling water park, and a regular park too. Overall it is a fun family spot.

Plenty of room to roam around and a few different playgrounds for the young and very young. There’s a splash playground for the little ones, public swimming pools (with changing areas & restrooms), a small pond (I’ve heard that they apparently they stock it with fish)… and there’s fields for picnicking, tossing the ball, and roaming around. I’d recommend checking the local website to ensure the water features are open, but everything else is open until sundown.

If you have another choice, take it. The times for free swim laps, open swim, and lessons are not scheduled well. The times available for laps are very limited.

The lessons are not worth paying for. After three sessions for 2 summers my child still had not passed to the 3rd level. The instructors were lazy and more interested in talking to each other instead of working with each swimmer. I called the town several times but no changes were made.

Afterwards, my child had a 2 week session with a YMCA instructor and my child learned more in that time period than six 2-week sessions over two summers of lessons at Fernridge Park.

A side note - the park is inundated with Canadian geese and there are feces all over. You can't walk 3 feet without having to avoid...
