Staff remember you. They always get my order right, even when it's complicated. Food is excellent, though a bit overpriced for pizza. Edit, 4/2/2024: Sadly, they're not as good as they used to be at getting the order right. the last two times I ordered, they got the order wrong, and since it was through a delivery service, I didn't have a chance to check like one does when picking up. for the last year or so it's been hit or miss with whether I'll be missing a topping or getting one I had asked to be removed. I can't eat garlic, so I order here because the sauce doesn't have garlic, and if I get white pie they used to be really good about leaving it off for me. Maybe it's in the dry oregano seasoning they shake on top of the pies? I've noticed that some brands of Italian seasoning include garlic, but people who don't need to avoid it probably don't think about it being in there. the last order I got was a white pie but instead of the fresh mozzarella, the main reason I love their white pie, I'm pretty sure I got regular aged mozzarella, the taste and texture were very different. it wasn't what I wanted but would have been ok if the pizza hadn't tasted strongly of garlic, I ended up having to toss it because garlic upsets my stomach, and I also avoid it for religious reasons.
unfortunately due to the location, picking up isn't the most convenient, but I think I'll have to do pick up orders only because something seems to go wrong with delivery service orders. will update if pickup orders are also not accurate.
I do want to comment on the reviews trashing the owners and staff: I have always had a good experience here in person. The owners have always been kind and have gone above and beyond for the community. During COVID when things like yeast and toilet paper were hard to get in grocery stores, they could get those things through commercial sources and you could get it from them, like you could add yeast to your pizza order. I remember seeing a stack of tp rolls by the register saying. "take one if you need it". They also did their best to try to keep all their staff employed.
If you've seen the owner or manager lose their temper, you don't know what else is going on, that same employee may have been doing a lot of things wrong and what you saw was the final straw. Also, the restaurant business is very stressful, especially right now, sometimes people hit their breaking point and can't hold back any more. it's not a good look, sure, but who among us hasn't lost their composure under pressure?
some of the customer complaints about the owner or staff are so clearly unaware that what the customer did was rude, like seating yourself at a table and then complaining the staff didn't come clean the table immediately, when you were told to wait to be seated, or adding something on last minute, or trying to add something on to a delivery service order by calling the restaurant, who can't do anything about it.
if you're rude, you really shouldn't be surprised if someone isn't happy and smiling with you. working in the service industry is hard, and customers seem to feel entitled to treat service workers like garbage, even more so in the last eight years or so, and service workers are justifiably tired of it, especially given how little...
Read moreRevisiting Luna Pizza this week of September 2020, we chose to eat inside. I wanted their white pizza again, but my partner thought the white clam would be good, too, so the waitress suggested we get our large pizza made as half white half white clam. We agreed and ordered two glasses of Malbec and the plain calamari as an app.
The wine pour was average to small but the wine itself had good body. The calamari was not our favorite of the many places we've had this dish, but that's our opinion. The squid was smaller and thinner in size, and not that crunchy. It has some heat, too, from all the peppers if you like spicy food. Their calamari also comes buffalo style with blue cheese. We considered this choice, so our waitress was nice enough to bring us each of the three sauces to try the calamari which diners can choose from when ordering . The marinara was a little bland, but the tartar sauce and house made buffalo, were perfect. Our next visit we might try their fried ravioli, meatballs or more of the arancini we had before.
The white cheese pizza with mozzarella, romano, garlic and parsley is still really good. The white clam pizza had an incredibly generous portion of chopped clams mixed with light to medium heat peppers, which left a slight burn on your palate after eating. I thought a few clam pieces were a little chewy but my partner thought that's what clams are and was fine with them. The quantity of clams soaked through the charred thin crust making it kind of wet. This pizza is easier to eat with a fork. We found reheating our boxed slices in the toaster oven on the toast setting, heated up the bottom to make it dry and crispy. A nice restaurant with good food for lunch, dinner or take-out. Due to Covid, patrons are asked to scan the menu on their phones before placing an order with the wait staff rather than using paper menus.
My first visit here there was only cheese pizza pre-made that we were told we could add toppings to before reheating. We ordered just the cheese to taste the crust and sauce better. Good, but the sauce tasted just like plain pureed tomatoes.
My second visit a couple of weeks later I would give five stars. The difference is this time there were a couple of white pizza slices pre-made. I ordered one of those as I've been searching for a good white pizza in CT that tasted like my favorite white pizza in CA, Joe's, and all of them have been disappointing. Not Luna's! I finally found a white pizza as delicious and flavorful as Joe's right in West Hartford. Took over a decade. I'll be ordering plenty of these in the future. We also tried their arancini (Italian rice balls stuffed with cheese) and they were tasty and well made. Wine and beer are also...
Read moreI needed to cater two days in a row for a film shoot. When I looked for local options, Luna Pizza came up. The only option to order was through email, so I started that process. Here's where things were going well, I suggested items on their menu and asked for suggestions in case what I asked for didn't fill our need for a 30-person headcount per day. I also asked for any chance of a discount due to us being an indie project. Alex was willing to help us to set a better menu for our cast and crew, and offered to give us about 14% off, which I appreciated. Here's where things started to go off the rails. After we confirmed what was needed including a pick up time for both days, I sent a follow up email. A few hours later I asked about adding a dairy-free option for one of our cast members as they had a serious dairy allergy. I asked about adding a wings order to both days as an additional item and wanted to make sure that any sauces or breading used (if any) were dairy-free. I received no response and after two days, I called Luna's directly for an answer because I needed this confirmed before our shoot day which was the following day. Alex wasn't in and the staff wasn't willing to help. I can only assume it's because management doesn't let them answer catering questions. I tried to ask about sauces and if there were other sides available if they didn't have fries, they said they couldn't help, but if I wanted to call back in a half hour, the manager should be back. I called back and still wasn't able to get Alex on the phone at no point during this experience. Everything went through staff. Not only did they have to call me again later to ask if wings were okay even though I had already made two calls and an email on this being what I wanted, the second day they hadn't added the wings to the order so my producer had to wait at pickup for it to be made, causing for me to get on another call and a delay. When my cast member got the wings and started eating, she realized that there was ranch dipping sauce in the container that had spilled out onto some of the wings. Which is not okay. For anyone working on sets that are 12+ hour days, needing a catering order completed for 30+ people, it shouldn't be this difficult to fill a dietary restriction need. The last thing is that on our second day we had a full tray and a half of penne and a full tray of meatballs, we were given no serving utensils. So we had to slowly fork our way through getting food on our plates, again adding even more time to our day. While Alex was helpful in the beginning, the overall experience when it comes to timing and potentially getting our cast member sick,...
