The symbol of West Haven. Savin Rock Park was established many years ago. Back then it was some kind of an amusement park with Ferris wheel and famous carousels. Those days are long gone, now it is basically just a park right at the beach with lots of picnic tables, small museum, some little playground at the beach, some bocci courts and boardwalk along the beach. In the summer, they have a live music on the gazebo. Past few years there was a Savin Rock Festival where they have food trucks, art vendors and musics. The festival is paused for this year, 2018, because of town’s budget issue. The boardwalk here stretches for few miles, makes it the longest boardwalk in Connecticut. Read moreThe park will always be such a lovely place. I have spent so many years, so many great memories walking the path watching seniors play bocce, dancing in groups to oldies. I actually taught my daughter to ride a bicycle at the park. Sadly, I have seen more trashy people hanging around the park and the officer in the satellite station doesn't help. Why would it? He should be walking the park. I am not there long enough to really say if the area is getting crappier but when I come around it seems the park is changing and not for the better but it is what I see...
Read moreThe board walk is nice. You can walk around and there are shops you can go to. Although the beach is not far from New Haven so it feels more like a city right next to a beach and less like an actual beach which I wasn't really a fan of.
I know New England isn't known for it's clear water but the quality of the water seemed kind of extra murky and didn't have that normal sea smell.
To sum up it's a place to swim and get some salt water swimming in but I would rather be somewhere like Silver Sands or someplace more with a beach feel and less...
