Really wonderful staff helped me get books from libraries across the state as well as return books to those libraries. Love the DVD binge box sets they offer, as well as spaces for people to read, work and meet. I set up there to work remotely from time to time and find it to be well suited for this. I saw other comments containing complaints about people talking loudly. Don't knock the library for this. It is a public space, and as such, sometimes people use it as a place to talk about life issues and feelings, or conduct a mini-lesson. This is normal human behavior. What's not normal is being unsympathetic to the folks that are our community and fantasizing that we have guaranteed privileges, such as guaranteed quiet so we can read novels about "exciting problems" while we disregard the people's "annoying problems" and do nothing to help them. [end rant] As I was saying ... the library itself is well appointed and I highly recommend a visit. Maybe bring some headphones just in case 😉 (or simply learn a wonderful skill: ask people for what you need... you may be surprised to find out that they do care about your experience as well ... maybe they are just working on/through some...
Read moreI am an educator working working with disadvantaged local youth in earning their high school diploma. Despite gaining earlier permission from an assistant director to spend a few days using their library to work with a student, we were kicked out today for no reason. Despite agreeing to follow all safety procedures (procedures which were not being enforced by any of their staff by the way), we were told we could not stay today. Even when I explained that today was the last day and he would literally be earning his diploma today, they refused to budge.
Meanwhile, countless other patrons were allowed to come and go while we sat outside, forced to work on a bench and leech the wifi from neighboring dunkin. So, instead of a library providing a quiet, safe place for my student to work on his finals, we are instead sitting on a bench, at a crowded intersection, hardly the most conducive learning environment.
Thank you West Haven PUBLIC Library for agreeing to provide a spot for us to meet, only to remove that permission after both my student and I spend our time and...
Read moreAll the staff are so friendly, courteous, professional, and patient at this library. The folks at the reference desk in the computer room always cheerfully make copies of what I need to be copied and they’re knowledgeable about iOS and PC software. They give instruction, providing the email address of the library so I can send what I need to be copied from my phone to the library email. It’s very convenient and economical too.
I don’t like the cost of ink in the store nor the mess so I don’t have to deal with any of that unpleasantness. I just visit my friendly library folk, pay 20 cents per copy, et voila, call it done.
It’s an absolute pleasure coming here because the folks that work here seem interested and genuinely want to help and are exemplary in customer service.
If all staff at other businesses could conduct themselves in this manner, the world would be a more productive place.
I highly recommend this library because of the warmth and competence of all staff members and I’m grateful to all the good folks at the West Haven Library.
Happy library...
