Been a member for almost 3 months. I was frequenting Purdues Co-rec before coming here. The membership rates for both Parkwest and the Co-rec are similar. Also, I have only the base membership and have not participated in any fitness classes they offer. From what I've noticed they offer a healthy variety of classes which is nice and something everyone should look into if considering a membership here.
Pros- Not nearly as crowded as Purdue's Co-rec during peak hours or any hour for that matter.
They have a nice selection of equipment to change your workouts up for most muscle groups.
I swim and hoop a lot and there has never been a cleanliness issue with those areas of the gym which is nice.
Cons- There doesn't seem to be enough weight plates to necessitate all the free weight stations. Im always on the hunt for 5's and 10's while I'm in the middle of a workout. There is a similar problem with clips being readily available for barbells.
Pretty sure the basketballs used in the 1986 movie Hoosiers are the same balls they have for members to use. Cool vintage look to them but these balls should have retired with Kobe. Seriously tho, these balls look like they smoke 2 packs a day.
Weight area cleanliness and men's locker room cleanliness has been lacking at times. Trash overflow in men's bathroom area almost always an issue.
Men's locker room has a certain stink to it. I'm just sayin, I'd rather smell the cool scent of bleach and ammonia than Toby's jock strap 6 lockers down.
Last thing, dress code...I'm all for flexin the goodies during a workout but some of these guys come in dressed like they are auditioning for a role in Magic Mike 3. "You're too fleshy bro, put a shirt on!"...is what I would like to say to them, but they are huge and could crush me. I maneuver so quickly though, that they would never catch me... Imagine Mario Kart, for N64 not this future stuff, and I'm Toad surrounded by a bunch of Bowsers. I'm too fast off the line Big Fella! I only race with princess though, for the record...
So yea, that's my 2 cents...some "cons" I've listed can be changed over night and some with a bit more time, effort and money. All in all a decent gym, but with Purdue's CoRec down the road and with similar membership fees and more to offer in a basic membership...might be a better option.
When my membership is up I'll probably re-up with Parkwest. Reasons being convenience of location, less crowded than Purdue's Co-rec, and I hate change.
Thanks...
Read moreI had a family membership with the gym for 6 months, a couple weeks ago I decided to freeze my membership, as I will be out of town a lot. I called and was told that I would have to come in and sign the paper. My husband went to the gym, but whoever was that day at the reception desk did not know anything about freezing agreement. So, my husband filled in papers for cancellation and was promised that a manager would get in touch. Nobody called, so I called again. I was told that my membership would be canceled soon. Nothing happened. Getting closer to the date of usual monthly payment my husband called again and the lady on the phone told that they could freeze my account, as she saw somebody did it a day ago. My husband went down again and ,oh surprise, another person at the reception told that we could not do it, he ended up cancelling our family membership. It cost us 150$. Charged immediately that day. No way I am going back to the gym where nobody knows what is going on. I would highly recommend figuring out your options, before you enroll. Complete waste of our time(( calls and useless trips to the gym(( This is outrageous and disrespectful to your clients!
My complain was heard and fixed. So, hopefully, we won't have any more issues. I understand that training new staff can take some time, though, they should be able (even 1st day in) to get in touch with somebody who has the info in order to help clients. Thanks for fixing our situation and good luck with...
Read moreMe & my family have been looking for a gym to join. As we been waiting for VASA to reopen child care after waiting months.. I decided to look at other gyms. This past Saturday we visit the Parkwest fitness & it was a waste of time. As we walked in a older lady & 3 boys were just walking in as we were & went behind the desk. The lady asked what did I need & told her we would like to check out the gym. She asked if we been here before I reply no. She told me I need to sign the waiver & rolled her eyes while handing me the pen. Then as we walk into the play area the other kids were calling for the “ babysitter” as she was hiding in the back room on her phone while the kids were in the front area.. she had looked like she rolled out of bed. She put my child teething toy in the mix of the other toys... as we are leaving no one at the desk said anything to us as the older lady & one of the younger boy were fighting about lunch.. oh & we drove an hour to check this gym out. I only rate a one star because it...
