Well unless you are lucky enough (?) to work at the paper mill by the falls it's difficult to see them in all their majesty as they are only really accessible from the river. We took a boat trip with Portland River Tours, for a generous two hours. It really is the best way to see them, and all the thundering water coming over them. If you pick your time of year (mid April for us) then you will likely see sea lions catching salmon, or trying to, in the white water below.

What a superfund nightmare. A dam built on top of the falls and surrounded by pulp mills. PCBs, dioxins, mercury and combined sewer overflows. It is interesting as an industrial site but a shame as a natural feature. If you liked the river in Cleveland on fire you should love this place.

The Willamette Falls trail is a great walking area nestled above Main Street and hugging the local neighborhood. You’ll be met with beautiful trees and rock formations, great sitting areas to enjoy the scenery and a lovely view of the Willamette Falls and historic paper mill site.

The 2nd largest waterfall by volume in the USA, largely inaccessible (currently) except by boat, Kayak or SUP, it's an impressive sight, with 2 hulking mills on either side of the central falls.
