The Oregon City Municipal Elevator operates as one of only four municipal elevators in the world and “Elevator Street” remains the only vertical street in North America! 😮 It’s free to ride and offers wonderful views of Oregon City below, including Willamette Falls and the Arch Bridge. Be sure to walk along the McLoughlin Promenade at the top to view some historic sites and to get a more up close view of the falls! 💦 ➡️ Have you ever taken a municipal elevator?! #wanderfreeandqueer #oregoncityoregon #ilovepdx #portlandoregonlife #mthoodterritory #onlyinoregon #queervisibility

Kayaking to the falls at sunset was breathtaking. There is an old paper mill right next to it which is kinda creepy cool. Highly recommend kayaking as close as you can (the falls are so powerful you can’t get crazy close- but if you hover near the edge, you can get a pretty good view)

The Willamette Falls is a natural waterfall on the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, Oregon, in the United States. It is the largest waterfall in the Northwestern United States by volume, and the seventeenth widest in the world.

The falls is a horseshoe shaped block waterfall caused by a basalt shelf in the river floor. The 40 ft (12 m) high and 1500 ft (457 m) wide falls occur 26 river miles (42 km) upstream from the Willamette's confluence with the Columbia River. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lock was a four lock canal and was the oldest continuous operating, multiple lift navigation canal in the United States.

The public can view the falls from viewpoints on the bluffs of Oregon City, from a signed viewpoint along Highway 99E, from the Oregon City Bridge, from a viewpoint on northbound I-205, or from boats...

Edit 12/2024: PGE, YOUR LAWSUIT IS EVIL. FREE THE FALLS.

Shame on PGE, open the waterfall up to the people and stop gatekeeping a sacred location. This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in North America and it's been cut off for hundreds of years first because it to force Native Americans away from their sacred grounds and now out of pure selfishness. It is a crime that such an incredible place is owned and clogged ny disgusting buildings.

Beautiful falls on the Willamette River. Very close to Oregon City. Viewable from Hwy 99 or I205. Probably one of the widest falls in the states. Too bad they ruined it with all of the industrial buildings built so close to and on both sides of the falls. Take that stuff down and it could be a beautiful natural area. Old locks no...
