City life, no matter the size of said city, can be overwhelmingly noisey at times. From car horns and crowd chatter, to the grinding and shuttering of the huge diseal trucks that transport vital goods across the worn Louisiana roadways, the sensory overload can be quite brutal!
Then, one enters the West Monroe Restoration Park. Aptly named and strategically placed, the park is a little slice of Nature's beauty. Visitors are transported from traversing the sunbaked blacktop roads of the city streets, to earthen trails suitable for jogging, sightseeing, or slow, meandering Sunday afternoon strolls with the family.
The Restoration Park is so much more than simply a "man-made mashing" of discarded refuse and nature. It's a reminder that not only does most of mankind still seek the beautiful wonders of Nature, but that we are also willing to "sacrifice" valuable industrial and/or commercial spaces, money, and time in an effort to once again better our communities through nature reclamation and conservation.
But don't just take my (a stranger's) word for it! Grab a leash for the family pet, pack a mini picnic lunch for the family, dust off those walking/trail running shoes, or maybe remember to grab mom's old camera (that she never seemed to be without!) and take a plethora of photos consisting of the Lily pads, wooden bridges, unique pieces of local artwork, or perhaps a shot or five of the many diverse birds and other animals that are drawn to this secluded feeling "Calm in the City Storm."
It'll definitely be time well spent! #RestorationPark #Nature...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of my favorite things to do is to go to weddings I wasn't invited to and eat all their cake. Then before the police arrive I bail out. But I don't wanna catch the diabeties so fueled by a massive sugar high , I walk it off here at the restoration park and nothing will stop me, not even Snowmageddon 2021... As I was strolling along listening to the sound of ice crushing under my feet and feeling high on sugar, and wondering if the cops those people back at the wedding called would find me, I started hearing screams and blasters in the distance. I thought I was alone but was mistaken. Turns out the galtic empire had taken advantage of the weather and was in the middle a full on take over of the park and all the rebels were out numbered. I was hoping to meet Darth Vader but he wasn't there. I assume the Empire runs the park now so if you start seeing Storm Troopers instead of forest rangers you know why. Maybe they'll even add a fully operational Death Star cause West Monroe could really use one. Also that would create alot of new jobs for the community. Either way ,thank you Darth Vader and Lord Sidious for what you've done...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere are plenty of photos in google maps but Iāll comment only several trips to restoration park (RP). The parks and rec department with Stuart Hodnet as director, have done a tremendous job with the upgrades, maintenance and upkeep of this unique park. This area was mined more than 50 years ago and when that closed it was a dumping site. Years of work led to a great walking park with wetlands, wildlife and plenty of bridges and crushed stone path. While it is adjacent to Interstate 20 in W. Monroe, once you enter the park you wouldnāt know if by the silence and serenity. Whether local or traveling through, itās an easy on/off from the interstate and worthwhile to stretch your legs and relax in...
