I take my lunch here almost every day to get some fresh air and a walk in on my break from work. There's a great circle that takes just about 20 minutes to do a lap. It's usually quiet and kept very clean.
There's probably a conservation reason why, but I wish they'd remove more of the fallen trees from the trail. They do come by and clear freshly fallen stuff, but there's a lot of old logs across the paths, so people just go off and trample through the bush to get around.
Making a left turn out is always a bit sketchy. Poor visibility to the west as people fly into the 50 mph zone. You kind of need to pull out and pray that noone is cannonballing...
Read moreI haven't been here for a very long time! The shelters look the same or at least similar but may have been updated with steel beams instead of wood. It's still a beautiful place. The only drawback for me was that there are way too many wasp and bees nests on every surface of the shelter (the reason for 4 stars, I'm allergic). I guess I wasn't surprised that they bricked over the fireplace in the shelter (most likely for safety), but it still made me sad. Read moreMy favorite woods in the Buffalo Grove area. The trial starting from Potawatomi woods cover 30 miles. Trial follows the Des plaines river. Small streams join the river along the way, if lucky you can spot deers. Ample car parking, there is a shed( which you can book ahead of time) for organizing party. This woods look beautiful year around, and keep visiting across seasons to see it’s different shades. There are some good fishing spots as well. One of the best spots in Chicago for Fall...
