Pros: the apartments are nicely maintained inside and out. Nice kitchen space, high ceilings, lawn care, etc. They are definitely the nicer apartments available in the area for sure. Kim and Karen were great. I had practically 0 issues with them. They were responsive, helpful, and polite. Maintenance guys are nice as well and always showed up promptly for tickets. When you're in your own little bubble there, it's a nice place. And then you realize the neighborhood you live in and all goes downhill.
First, if you have a fly problem- you are likely not the issue. During the summer time we were killing 20-30 house flies A DAY. the neighbors dealt with the same fate. It's pretty gross, the exterminator is no help and liked to blame it on pets, and nothing helps except the heat dying down. Beware. Paying this much rent while prepping for "fly season" in this place is not fun. We're in new apartments and have 0 fly issues.
You will not find parking here honestly. It was so frustrating- sometimes i wanted to go out but decided not to because I knew some random car would take up a space. And with crime in the area, I did not want to park away from my cameras. Overall the parking issue just sucks.
The drivers here are terrible and will constantly run through stop signs, so you have to be extra careful you don't get into an accident. Its so bad, I caught everything on my dashcam just to upload to youtube. Can't wait. The lack of care for fellow neighbors just...blows my mind. Ive lost count of how many people ran through stop signs and cut me off inches from my car. They see you perfectly fine. They'd just rather cut you off than wait. They will fly through stop signs. Or stop at stop signs to text instead of moving. Or tail you because why not? Or act aggressive with you after almost hitting you. Kids run through the street and throw around balls that will hit your car and their parents could care less. Literally, the parents will watch their kids be dumb and not do a thing. Dogs run around loose and owners simply do not care. Trash, very often, is dumped on the walkway/street because there's always ONE person that will block the compactor and ruin it for the rest of us. People from the surrounding neighborhoods also come in and dump their trash and leave. It's unfair to be paying for trash collection while the outside neighbors can dump theirs here for free.
We had our apartment vandalized by a neighbors child who broke our stuff and ran (your son is a star now in the neighbors app!). Cars are checked through in the middle of the night to see what can be stolen. Tires have been slashed. Converters have been stolen especially on our street. We heard of a murder/assault atleast every 1-2 weeks. Packages have been stolen and destroyed. We have had detectives over atleast 6 times this year alone and yet our lease ended in July. The crime and constant want to feel safe is what drove us out of here. Being in a safer area now, we can definitely tell the difference.
I felt like many issues could've been curbed had the complex been gated and speed bumps been added, but it wasn't done. The lack of safety here for the amount you pay... just not worth it. I cannot justify staying somewhere where I constantly feel on edge about either A. Getting assaulted/hurt or B. Getting my stuff stolen or destroyed. C. Having my car destroyed by some moron who doesn't know how to read a stop sign.
If you HAVE to move here, I suggest securing your home with multiple cameras facing out the windows and door and in your own apartment. Also, wire up your car. Yep- I had cameras everywhere. You need it. Trust me.
Overall idk if I can recommend this place. Guess it's up to what you value. It was home for 2 years and was affordable. Our immediate neighbors were friendly. The units were nice. Management is responsive. But the second year in the lease was frustrating and i couldnt wait to move at some point. People were just aggressive, way too much crime, and an uncomfortable amount of detectives were...
Read moreBeware! Before I get into my horror story, a few things. Parking is terrible here and people do not clean up after their dogs. Now......We moved into the Avery after selling our home in 2016. It was our first experience with renting. The buildings were new, the apartments were beautiful and we were excited to move in. In our year there we were excellent tenants. Always auto-paid our rent each month on time. Kept our residence clean. Got along well with the neighbors and cleaned up after our dog as well as others dogs along the way. (Though there is a policy about cleaning up after your dog, many tenants do not follow it and dog dropping are everywhere!). One year later we had to move back to PA. We gave ample notice, said our goodbyes to the staff and cleaned the apartment to almost move in condition and moved out on a Saturday. The only thing that was left to do was to touch up some of the marks on the walls from moving out. I spoke to Kim about the walk through and the fact that no one would be able to do it on the weekend and she said. "Oh, don't worry. You'll be fine." I stupidly believed her. Fast forward a few weeks after we moved and Karen informs me that not only would we not be getting our security deposit back but that we owed them money to replace the carpet because, in her words, they were " covered in piss." I was shocked! Not once did my pet relieve himself in the house! She went on to say, "Even the maintenance staff said that you could smell the piss as soon as you walked in." Now, I know that you don't know me but I assure you this was not the case. The apartment was immaculate! The people that helped us move said the house still smelled new. I work from home most days and kept the apartment in order and walked my dog 4 to 5 times a day depending on the weather. We would never live in the house that they described! Who would? I asked for photos and was sent grainy black and white pictures that could have been anyone's apartment along with a photo of my address plate. I asked for a piece of the carpet so that I could have it DNA tested but, of course, it had already been destroyed. So in the end, because I stupidly trusted these dishonest people, I was left with a bill for over $700. I'm not sure if it's that the building managers (Karen and Kim) are phony liars or if the carpet company is looking to make a buck ($1,200 for about 500 square feet of the cheapest carpet you can buy is a ridiculous price!!) or if they are working together to scam people but they certainly saw me coming. I really thought I could trust Karen and Kim. They seemed so nice. But stupid me, Kim knew exactly what she was doing when she told me not to worry about the walk through. Trust me, I will never make that mistake again. In the end, it was cheaper to settle with collections for a good portion less than the balance then to pay for the attorney that I contacted. (She told me that this is probably the most common landlord complaint that she deals with.). Hard lesson learned. 1. People are not what they seem. 2. Always do a walk through. Good luck if you chose to...
Read moreMy daughter and I have been living at the Avery for approximately six years and I can honestly say that it is an exceptional, happy and rewarding experience. The entire staff do their duties diligently, the complex is neat and safe and Kim and Karen of the office staff are just so nice, helpful, knowledgable, and understanding. When I call the office for something that needs to be done in my apartment it still amazes me how prompt and efficient that it is done. In a nutshell, all the conveniences, swimming pool, barbecue area , gym, sitting and relaxing area, movie theater for personal use, game room etc. etc, makes for a resort like living which makes us happy to be experiencing. We are truly blessed to be living at the Avery. Just came back home from the Avery Holiday party which was just so peaceful, pleasant and delicious. HIGH FIVES AVERY!!!!! You are the best. Merry Christmas and Happy New...
