This is a wonderful place. A truly great resource for the community. The food is almost always fresh and delicious. Literally almost perfect. I want to be an honest reviewer however and only give five stars to places that truly deserve it. This kitchen has a lot of good people volunteering working in it however there is always a couple of issues with individuals who are not as open-minded as they would like to believe and in general sometimes truly good talent May fall beneath the radar. For example someone I know volunteered there and was turned away when they showed up to work because there were supposedly too many volunteers and that is literally that is literally just ridiculous there's always something to do something to clean something anything. Also this person tells me they felt upon returning to volunteer a second time that they were treated strangely by some of the permanent volunteers as if they were trying to get something out of the experience except for that they were just trying to give back to the community I think it's because a lot of people use the place for community service hours or something like that either way you can't go wrong stop in for a great meal and take some home with you there is plenty of food here local businesses donate a ton of food and if people don't end up eating it it goes to waste. Their food pantry has food in it that they give to people on a bi-monthly basis and I feel that it could be better managed because of all the food that ends up getting thrown away and the limits they put on the food that they give to people that being said I am sure it is extremely challenging to try to figure out how to get the most food to the most people with his little waist as possible and I think that they are really doing a...
Read moreWe were fortunate to spend some time helping the #EssentialSuperheroes at the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic recently. This team of dedicated volunteers is a shining example of how continued dedication to an essential humanitarian cause makes for beautiful chaos. I was fortunate to be welcomed into the inner sanctum of their well-coordinated organization. I love how your ecosystem is able to move people from guests to stable volunteers. Their impressive space is well organized and maintained that a volunteer needs little guidance to make their impact. The team of directors and steady flow of volunteers is highly engaged and empowered to work collaboratively, yet independently. It is also impressive that the Soup Kitchen is able to leverage community support across a wide array of public and private platforms. Through a culture of patience and understanding, donors and volunteers feel valued and appreciated, while guests feel humanized, supported, and safe. The team's dedication to the well-being of their guests made me proud to be a part...
Read moreI had the opportunity to volunteer at the covenant soup kitchen. The amount of help and provisions it provides to the community are without words to say the least. Helping people in need is a great feeling & it's something we should ALL do from time to time. The families that come for assistance are so greatful, the greetings and smiles are just small tokens of their appreciation. I myself feel good about being able to help. We all participate in helping out. That's how a community should be. To the providers from the Covenant Soup Kitcgen keep up...
