I want to put zero stars if I could. Now that I got that out of the way, I had gone to NYC with my elderly mother and my two kids. I had booked the hotel on the hotel website and got my confirmation SMS. I had booked this hotel because of the positive reviews but when we got there a rude shock awaited us. The person at the front desk was rude and did not even make eye contact from the get go. He asked for my id and told me bluntly that my room was cancelled because my card was declined. I asked me why I was never called and he said "I do not know as I was not here and the previous guy did it". Then he said he called him and they tried calling me and I did not pick the phone. I never got any calls. I also did not get any cancellation SMS! He was extremely rude, blunt and without any sympathy or mercy for our situation. We were made to feel unwanted and insulted. Since it was already past midnight at this point in time, I could not book any hotel online for the night since all websites (like Priceline) will book starting next day. So I had to go from from one hotel to another asking for availability or just call them directly. Finally, we found a place at 2 am for the night. This caused severe hardship to me and my 86 year old mother and two kids (one of them with disabilities).
If my credit card was not valid how did the website confirm the booking? Also, the booking was a non-refundable booking, which means firm commitment. How can the hotel ask the customer for a firm commitment and not provide one in return? One of the fundamental requirement while booking a non-refundable hotel in advance is there is a room available when you show-up. How is it my mistake when no one tried calling before cancelling? To top it all why was the hotel staff showing extreme rudeness, lack of sympathy and condescending attitude? When you are in hospitality business you need to be polite and helpful even if you do not have a room especially when guys mess up. From my point of view this is what happened, they overbooked the room and when we came in for late check in (this is out right as we had booked a non-refundable room), you assumed that we will not come and gave the room to someone else so that you make more money of the same room. Based on the behavior of the front desk staff it looked that the hotel does this frequently (he was not surprised at all). I would say stay away from this place if you have concrete plans as they do not live up to their commitment. To the Hotel Management: If you are sorry for our experience just do not reply to my message saying you are sorry. Call me and get my details and send me a check equivalent to the booking amount as compensation for my ordeal. I deserve a proper apology and a monetary compensation...
Read moreThe Choice Hotel brands are usually my go to when traveling for business. The price is always within budget & the rooms are typically well kept and clean. The Comfort Suites at Woodbridge met all my expectations.
I'll admit, at first I was a little worried about booking at this hotel. My drive up Route 1/9 North took me past some pretty sketchy motels and establishments so I was concerned about the area & the condition of the Comfort Suites.
In addition, just getting to the hotel was a challenge coming North on Route 1/9. You have to pass the hotel and make a U-turn. Once we got into the parking lot almost every spot was taken by trucks belonging to contractors. However, all my concerns & frustrations were put to rest as I walked into their modern & clean lobby. And despite my late arrival of 11pm, I still received a warm friendly check in.
I was given a room on the 7th floor next to the elevators. However, I didn't hear them at all and had a great night's rest. I love the "hard/soft" pillow options at the Comfort Suites, nice touch. Overall condition of the room was good. It featured amenities such as a microwave & refrigerator. Just a few kinks though, the air conditioner was a little loud and our hallway light kept blinking. I had alerted the front desk to this upon checkout.
Morning breakfast was standard Choice Hotel fare, eggs, sausage, waffles and continental options. I was pleasantly surprised by how good their eggs were.
Two things kept my rating from 5 Stars: 1.) In Room refrigerator: The water tray under the "freezer" portion was completely full after a recent defrost. By accident I had hit the tray as I was placing some items in the fridge leading to water cascading all over the floor. Suggestion: have house cleaning check those defrost trays. 2.) Ice at Breakfast: When I asked about having a cup of ice, I was hoping to make an iced coffee, I was told they had none and I would have to go to the 2nd floor ice machine. So I proceeded to the 2nd floor only to find the the machine not dispensing any ice. So I tried the 3rd floor; no ice machine. Tried the 4th floor, same problem as the 2nd, just kept churning, not dispensing any ice. At that point I gave up on having an iced coffee...
Read moreI would give then 0 out of 5, if I was able to. Issue 1 - Great Mismanagement I booked my hotel booking through Expedia and paid full amount upfront. I got the confirmation number from Expedia, rubber stamping my reservation.Reached the hotel at 11:55 pm since I was travelling from Canada. When I reached there, the desk person told me that reservation exist on my name but the money is not received yet and cannot allocate us the rooms that we reserved. I had to spent 1.5 hr working with Expedia Support to get the issue sorted out in the middle of night with my small kids waiting to get the beds to sleep. Considering, we were travelling with 4 small kids after 10 hr drive fron Canada and going through all this was very frustrating.
Issue 2 - Rude Desk Support Personnel There was no support from the desk support person sitting there at night. He was not willing to help us on anything and we were on our own to sort out everything. He was quite rude in the conversation as well.
Issue 3 - Terrible Front Desk and Room Service We stayed there for 4 nights and 3 days. Once we were issued the rooms, we requested them to clean the rooms but they said the rooms are cleaned after 3 days as per schedule. That means you will not get any room cleaning service if you are staying there 3-4 days trip. We further requested the refills for Toiletry stuff, towels 4 times but did not get even once. In the end, we have to purchase our own towels and toiletry from poutside. This was unacceptable especially if you are travelling with small kids. I requested to talk to manager but he is only availabe 9-5 Mon-Fri Only. Terrible Terrible Service.
I will rate 0 stars for both Expedia and Comfort Suites at Woodbridge and will not not use any of their services going further. I will also recommend my Family and friends to avoid...
