Wrightsville Beach, NC — Attraction in Wrightsville Beach

Beautiful, fun, and family friendly... My kids love it. You can walk along the beach for a good distance, and there's a few places to eat scattered about(albeit off the beach). There's often surfers at Johnny Mercer's Pier during the summer. I wish it didn't have a con, but unfortunately it's expensive before 7pm! As of 3/1/19 the parking costs $3/hr... Yes, that's just to park. Parking in '17 & '18 was getting REALLY hard to find a spot during the daytime. Maybe that's what they're thinking about when they raised the meter cost this year. Nightlife/bar scene There's mainly two areas to grab a drink. The bigger one is by "Tower 7" restaurant at the end of Causeway Drive(the main road on to the island)... There's 4 or 5 bars/clubs right there next to each other. The other spot for an adult bev is by Johnny Mercer's Pier (cross the drawbridge, left at the fork, and before the park area). There is a definite bar, and a restaurant with a bar on the left side by the pier. Caution!! Wrightsville Beach makes huge profits from their police force! If you drink and drive, you will most likely get caught! It doesn't matter if you're local or a tourist... It's been that way for decades. I've heard their police force is 27...

This beach was not super crowded when we went and we were able to find parking fairly close to the beach access point. The parking is expensive but it is what it is. It seemed family friendly and pet friendly. No boardwalk area that we saw. Only bathroom we found was at a hotel that was kind enough to let us use their restroom. That stretch of beach seemed to have more rental units than hotels and shops. There were a lot of boogie boarders out that day. The waves were good for it. I was told by a sweet lady we met there that the locals don't really prefer the increase of tourists flocking to their area but people seemed pretty friendly there. I would go again but earlier in the day with more provisions and with some kind of shade cover. And it's such a nice area. PLEASE BE KIND TO THE PEOPLE AND THE BEACH IF YOU VISIT. LEAVE THEM THE SAME OR BETTER THAN YOU FOUND THEM SO IT WILL STILL BE NICE THE NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO...

Wrightsville is really fantastic beach. If you show up early enough in the morning you will see teams of the local residents combing the beach for trash and litter. The people that live here really take pride in the beach. As visitors from out of town we need to make sure that we also show respect and not leave trash. The parking here is extremely Limited. As this is the closest beach to the Research Triangle area it is where people go first and if they can't get parking they go down the road to Carolina Beach. My suggestion is if you want to come here for a day trip you need to get here early around 6:30-7 a.m. if you want to get good parking. If you show up past 11:30 a.m. it might not be possible for you to get parking at all anywhere.
