A nice mall with some half-decent designer stores, your typical GameStop and food court, a FYE, a little coffee shop, a vape store, a pet store, there is also a Ruby Tuesday's connected where you can drink alcohol and have a bite to eat. Also an arcade that is half decent. Not a bad little place to do some shopping. Also Boscov's, Bon-Ton, and Sears, are connected department stores. A Five Below is also connected to the mall but has an outside entrance. Like most smaller malls it's over crowded with useless cell phone stores and some shops that really aren't necessary. No comic book store.. That's a disappointment. There's a habitat but most of their merchandise is overpriced and you could find the same stuff online for 20% cheaper. There is all the typical clothing stores like Aeropostale and American Eagle. There's a half decent upstairs food court. If your daughter is into ballet there is a ballet school upstairs as well. All around not a bad mall to do some light shopping. I think this mall could use some better management especially when it comes to booking conventions. I have been coming to this mall for years and the only thing they really do is a car show once in awhile and a sports trading card show I think they need to update what they do as far as conventions go. A suggestion would be reaching out to some local record stores and vinyl record sellers and seeing if they could get a music convention going. I think that would bring a large crowd and some much-needed new faces to this location. I think the people who book the conventions are thinking out of date sports trading cards are a thing of the past yes some people still collect them but if you were to look into the numbers vinyl records are on the rise and they already have a store inside of the mall that sells vinyl records in FYE. They could also do a comic book and action figure convention I think that would bring a lot of new faces as well. The problem with the sports trading card convention they do regularly is there's no new faces it's the same old sellers with the same old stuff and it's just boring period after attending year after year I'm surprised half of the vendors even show up. People used to be into sports cards back in the 90s and yes there are still some people who collect them but I really think they need to look forward to what's happening in the collecting world and right now vinyl records are it. I understand why malls mostly put big name stores inside of their establishment but it would be nice to see some brick and mortar stores as well instead of the never ending and overwhelming amount of cell phone stores that are completely unnecessary maybe put in something interesting and different once in awhile. Just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLh So let me first say that I received a warm greeting as soon as I entered Best Buy. There was also a disinfection station immediately inside the "IN" door. My husband had pre-ordered a hard drive online, prepaid and set up for curbside pickup. We received email/text confirmation of the order and we're instructed to wait until we received a text that the order was ready for curbside pickup, specifically tonight. I headed out to run errands and approximately an hour and a half later I was near Best Buy so decided to simply stop, and go into the store so that I wouldn't have to return later in the evening. I waited in line for online pickup and spoke with an associate who stated that I would have to leave the store and wait for a text message before I could return to actually pick up the hard drive. I asked if I could pick it from inventory on the floor and was told that it had to match up our code specifically for my order online. So because I didn't want to return home and then drive back out in a severe thunderstorm, I took to the floor of Best Buy and found the hard drive I needed(as well as some fancy colored smart light bulbs that I didn't need). I headed to check out, while simultaneously canceling the original online order. My rating is based mostly on the inadequacy of Best Buy policies. Asking a customer to leave the store in order to return within the next 2 hours (closing) to pickup an item they've already paid for and decided to stop in and pickup, send ludacris to me. How many people have left, cancelled and home somewhere else to get what they need? Maybe none, but I'm guessing a few at least. There were associates available, and I even offered to find it myself, but was told the only remedy was to leave. The products are great and the associates were kind, apologetic and supportive even though they were unable to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBerkshire Mall in Reading, PA, feels like stepping into a piece of historyāan artifact from a bygone era, yet still standing, still breathing. In a world where malls are vanishing, fading like forgotten side quests, this one persists, holding onto its own identity amidst the changing tides of consumerism.
Walking through its halls, I felt a strange nostalgia, as if traversing a familiar yet altered timeline. The architecture and layout harken back to a time when shopping malls were grand social hubs, places where people didnāt just shop, but experienced something largerāa microcosm of culture, commerce, and community. Some stores are lively, filled with energy, while others feel like abandoned levels in a game long past its prime. Itās a mix of the old and the new, a fusion of memories and modern necessity.
The food court, while limited, still offers a comforting respiteālike a well-placed save point before venturing further into the unknown. Some of the bigger retailers have left, making certain corridors feel ghostly, echoes of a livelier past. Yet, there are still pockets of life, stores that persist, employees who care, and a community that keeps this place from becoming another relic.
Service is a mixed bagāsome stores exude warmth and attentiveness, while others feel like NPCs programmed with generic dialogue. The upkeep could be better, some areas show the wear of time, but itās still functional, still operating, still telling its story.
Berkshire Mall is not a cutting-edge retail experience, nor does it try to be. It is a monument to a different time, a familiar yet evolving space. For those who appreciate the charm of perseverance, of history refusing to fade, this mall still holds value. It may not be a five-star journey, but itās one...
