Let me paint you a picture: your child gliding gracefully across pristine ice, living their best hockey life, while you slowly transform into a human icicle in the stands. Welcome to York Ice Arena, where the only thing colder than the ice is your rapidly numbing extremities! The good news? This place is absolutely fantastic for kids. The ice quality is genuinely impressive – smooth as glass and maintained beautifully. My little hockey star was in heaven, and honestly, watching him zip around on that perfect surface almost made me forget that I’d lost feeling in my toes somewhere around hour two. The coaches deserve serious props. They were enthusiastic, patient, and clearly knew their stuff. My kid came home every day buzzing with excitement about what he’d learned, which is the ultimate parent win (even if said parent resembles a shivering penguin by pickup time). The heated locker rooms are a godsend for the kids – warm, spacious, and a perfect refuge for gear changes. Meanwhile, I discovered that sitting in an ice rink for hours is essentially voluntary cryogenic preservation. Pro tip: layers, people. ALL the layers. I showed up in a hoodie like some kind of arctic amateur and learned my lesson the hard way. The staff is friendly and the facility is well-run. Just remember to pack like you’re heading to the North Pole, because while your kid is having the time of their life, you’ll be calculating how long you can survive on body heat alone. Would I send my kid back? Absolutely. Would I bring a sleeping bag next time? You bet your frozen hockey puck I would. Four stars – one deducted for the hypothermia I’m still recovering from. Send your kid with lots of cash - the concession stand...
Read moreDrove my three siblings out dressed and ready to ice skate as promised. Since it said online they were open for public skating. Get there and the lady upfront was one of the rudest people I’ve ever had to deal with. To be clear, I was not rude to her. If you hate your job/life that much, change something. Also, it’s 2022. Maybe have a clear calendar for people to access. According to the ray of sunshine I had to deal with, even though it said they were open from 1-3 for skating, because it didn’t also say it on the calendar at the BOTTOM of the page, I should’ve known they weren’t open..? We love skating so I hope someone that has the slightest bit of customer service, or common decency for that matter, opens a...
Read moreWe came here for a weekend tournament and this rink is really nice. There is plenty of parking and once inside the facility, there is plenty of room to move around. We arrived and both rinks were in use and it didn't feel crowded. The seating is great, looks like trex deck boards an inch off of the concrete. We sat on front of a heater so we were very comfortable. There is a concession stand that serves average tasting food so don't expect anything with flavor. Also don't ask for regular hot tea as you'll be told "This is a pizza shop, what do you expect". We know for the rest of the tournament to bring hot tea...
