The Eternal City: A Cultural Immersion into the Heart of Uzbekistan

The Eternal City in the Silk Road Samarkand complex is not just a tourist attraction, but a true cultural oasis that immerses visitors in the atmosphere of antiquity while preserving the rich traditions and crafts of Uzbekistan. Every corner of this unique park is a work of art, faithfully recreating the atmosphere of an ancient city. Narrow streets adorned with workshops of artisans and craftsmen remind one of the grandeur of Eastern civilization.

Restaurants like Afrosiyob and Buyuk Samarkand offer a unique cuisine that, without exaggeration, is a true revelation for gourmets. Each dish, prepared using ancient recipes, not only reveals a rich flavor but also showcases the cultural heritage of the region. Atmospheric cafes like Chaykhana “Manzara” offer not only the delicious Fergana pilaf but also stunning views of the surroundings.

The cultural programs are equally impressive: street musicians, performances, festivals, and workshops from renowned masters. Every corner of the park is alive, and there is something special for every guest. Spectacular events such as the applied arts festival, a ceramics symposium, and the traditional dress festival, as well as unique puppet shows in the Puppet Theater, provide unforgettable experiences.

Recently, I visited the Eternal City again, and it felt like returning to a familiar yet ever-surprising place that never ceases to reveal new discoveries. I found new corners I hadn’t noticed before: workshops where you can not only see the process of creating unique works of art but also try your hand at crafts, as well as new cafes and restaurants with an unparalleled atmosphere. Every visit opens up something new, and I can confidently say that this place continues to amaze and inspire.

If I were to be offered the chance to visit again and experience new traditions and programs, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment. The endless opportunities to explore and discover more of what this place has to offer make it a destination that continually offers something new to its visitors.

The Eternal City is a place where time seems to stand still, allowing you to truly touch the rich culture and heritage of Uzbekistan. It is not just a getaway, but a journey to the heart of the East, where traditions...

A Captivating Journey Back in Time As a tourist, my visit to The Eternal City was driven by a desire to experience its renowned design, and it truly delivered. The architectural recreation of ancient Samarkand is nothing short of amazing. Walking through its meticulously crafted streets felt like stepping back hundreds of years, offering a vivid sense of what the historic city might have been like. This immersive feeling is undoubtedly the highlight of the experience. The overall atmosphere is very nice and evocative, though I noted it closes quite early, which felt a bit restrictive given its potential as an evening attraction. Navigation within the complex was, of course, very easy, allowing for a relaxed exploration of its various sections. My primary suggestion for improvement would be the inclusion of more casual cafes and a broader range of international food options. As a significant tourist destination, expanding the culinary variety would greatly enhance the visitor experience, catering to diverse palates. Despite the limited food options and early closing, The Eternal City is an undeniably captivating attraction. It's a beautifully designed complex that successfully transports you to a bygone era, making it a highly recommended stop for anyone visiting Samarkand. Star Rating: I would suggest a 4 out of 5 stars for The Eternal City. Reasoning: Positive: Absolutely stunning and immersive design, excellent atmosphere, easy to navigate, creates a powerful sense of historical travel. Negative: Early closing hours, limited casual cafe options, and a lack of diverse international food choices for a major tourist spot. The exceptional design and immersive experience warrant a high rating, while the practical aspects of closing time and food variety slightly temper it from a...

The Eternal City, Samarkand.

The Eternal City in Samarkand is a modern historical and ethnographic complex at the heart of the Silk Road Samarkand tourist resort. Covering 11 hectares, it recreates the spirit of Uzbekistan’s ancient cities with authentic architecture inspired by real houses and squares from historical texts. It is not a residential district, but rather an open-air museum and entertainment area that also serves as a venue for local and international events, festivals, and exhibitions.

The complex features turquoise domes, intricate mosaics, and towering minarets, designed by renowned Uzbek artist Bobur Ismoilov. The Eternal City blends Parthian, Hellenistic, and Islamic influences, offering a rich glimpse into Uzbekistan’s diverse heritage.

This vibrant open-air museum showcases traditional crafts through numerous artisan shops and workshops, where local masters demonstrate pottery, woodwork, textiles, and more. Visitors can enjo national dishes from different regions and eras, alongside authentic street performances and cultural events.

While primarily a tourist attraction, the complex is also a lively cultural hub hosting festivals, exhibitions, and interactive masterclasses. Guests can explore streets representing Samarkand, Bukhara, Ferghana, Tashkent, and other regions, all within the resort. The Eternal City offers an immersive journey through Uzbekistan’s history and traditions, combining ancient charm with modern hospitality in a unique,...

A must visit, Eternal City at Silk Road Resort is a remarkable place; an impressive recreation of major historic cities, brought together in one beautifully planned and designed space. The architecture, layout, and aesthetics are truly exceptional, and wandering through it feels like stepping back in time. The souvenir shops were a pleasant surprise too, offering good rates compared to what you might find elsewhere. If you’re staying at the resort, there’s really no need to go into the city; it’s all right there. That said, I did have two unpleasant experiences that I can’t ignore. As a Black African tourist, I felt singled out; once when an old shop seller actually called security to confirm if I was a tourist (which was more hilarious than offensive, but still awkward), and another time when a waiter at Afrosiyob Restaurant pushed me out abruptly during a private family gathering at their water front space without even asking if I was in the wrong place. That was unnecessary and disappointing, and I would not recommend that restaurant. Aside from those encounters, Eternal City itself is a gem; stunning, lively, and worth visiting. With a bit more cultural sensitivity from a few individuals, it would easily be a five-star experience.
