The Marriott Buenos Aires on Avenida 9 de Julio, right by the Obelisco, is a great choice if you prefer an urban setting. The area feels like a cross between Times Square and the Champs-Élysées—busy, vibrant, and centrally located, with many points of interest within walking distance.||While I personally preferred staying in Recoleta for its charming, tree-lined streets, I also enjoyed my experience here. One of my main reasons for choosing this hotel was its location across from the Teatro Colón. I wanted to attend a performance of Don Quixote while in town and was lucky enough to snag the very last ticket for the next day’s performance after an early-morning line.||Another factor was my desire for a spacious room with a bathtub, as many hotels seem to be phasing those out in favor of showers. I was fortunate to not only get a room with a bathtub, but also one with a fabulous patio and a stunning view of Avenida 9 de Julio and the beautiful Teatro Colón—truly a highlight of my trip.||I usually find Marriott reliable for both amenities and their breakfast buffets. Unfortunately, this location was the exception. The buffet was disappointing: bacon that was either undercooked or burnt, medialunas (Argentine croissants) that were barely edible, and “croissants” that looked like they were made by a child. The omelets I ordered each day were carelessly prepared and poorly presented. Room service was also subpar—I received a burnt club sandwich that had been scraped and sent out anyway (though it was replaced when I complained). Clearly, there are issues in the kitchen that need to be addressed.||On a brighter note, the service was impeccable throughout the rest of the hotel. After a long trip, I was warmly greeted by Andy at the front door—one of the kindest and most professional people I’ve encountered in hospitality in years. He should be on a fast track for promotion. At breakfast, Marcia (I believe that was her name) was wonderfully friendly and attentive, going out of her way to assist me with a smile, especially since I have some mobility issues. The front desk staff were equally delightful—Juan Manuel checked me in, and several ladies later helped with extending my stay. Kevin, another staff member, was also very helpful.||Overall, despite the disappointing food, the excellent service, unbeatable location, and comfortable room made my stay very enjoyable. I would definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I Had the worst experience staying at any Marriott that I’ve stayed at around the world at this location. We booked two rooms prior to our arrival, when we arrived they said we only booked one room, they then made excuses saying there was a conference so they were extremely full. After a few minutes they magically came up with a second room for us.
Later that night as my wife and I prepared to go to bed we realized that half of the bed was collapsed, we had previously noted the room was in poor shape and had many broken pieces of furniture and signs of damage. We called down to the front desk and explained the problem, the manager quickly stated he would find us a replacement mattress, and that he would call back in 15 minutes, this was at 9 pm. After 30 minutes of not hearing from him I called back down, the front desk worker who answered claimed it would be another 10 minutes. I did my best to give them the benefit of the doubt, because it is a rather unusual problem to have to solve late at night. However after calling them repeatedly every 30 minutes to ask where our replacement mattress was, it was soon 1 AM, and we had a flight to catch the next day! After I had gone down stairs for a second time that night, a solution miraculously appeared outside our door of two twin mattresses pushed together to replace the queen sized mattress. This was after 4 hours of getting the run around from the hotel manager who wouldn’t admit they had sold us what was clearly an “out of service room”. The manager’s offer to make up for the inconvenience was a small box of macrons and a free breakfast the next day. Turns out the free breakfast he offered was to the members lounge that we already had access too, so we were charged for “free” breakfast and the macrons? They were stale.
We spent $326.92 for a singular hellish night where we barely got to enjoy few hours of sleep, got some half-baked apology, and no refund of our money for a clearly out of service room that was sold to us for full price because they overbooked.
Thank you to the world’s worst Marriott, (Buenos Aires Marriott, Carlos Pellegrini 551, C1009 Cdad. Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina) you’re a true embarrassment...
Read moreThe Buenos Aires Marriott is well situated in a busy, metropolitan area of the city. It is within walking distance of restaurants, attractions, green spaces and activities. |The layout of the hotel is a bit strange with a substantial number of the rooms facing each other in a manner that would require keeping one’s drapes closed much of the time. As a Bonvoy member with status we were fortunate to receive an upgrade to a city view junior suite room. It is worth paying extra to receive a room NOT in the fishbowl!|Rooms are clean and well outfitted but I found the bathrooms to be small and dated; even in our Jr. Suite. Vanities have yellowing surfaces and cracks. Toiletries are sporadically restocked. The housekeeping staff was thorough and front desk personnel were outstanding…always available with a suggestion or assistance with any issue. The bellmen and door staff were fantastic. I can’t say enough good about them and their friendly demeanors and assistance with luggage, transportation and dining suggestions.|A large gym area that was rarely used by others (in a week of visits I never once saw another guest working out with me) and an enclosed pool made for lap swimming and relaxing are highpoints. |The in house restaurant used primarily for breakfast was mediocre at best. The selection and preparation of foods was adequate but didn’t always seem to be the freshest. Fruit quality varied and the scrambled eggs were runny. Perhaps they were made from powdered eggs? The breakfast staff were friendly and helpful.|The hotel appeared to cater to large travel groups. While there I saw several Gate ! Travel groups (Why they wore their name badges all the time is a mystery to me!) and several Chinese based companies as well. This meant breakfast could be crowded and picked over. Fortunately, we had access to the Bonvoy lounge and chose to have breakfast there most mornings. The buffet selection was smaller but seemed more curated and fresher.|Overall, the Marriott is a solid stay for a lower mid...
