The Koi Mahik is a very nice, comfortable and very clean hotel with great views of Lago Argentino. It is unfortuantely nto close to the city centre and you will need a tazi ride or 20 min walk to get to the closest shops or restaurants. It is however possible to eat in the same hotel. Very simple but extremely nice food, including the famous Argentinian meat and a guanaco pasties. Breakfast is served in the same dining area and features some very nice croissants. The rooms are a good size. They do not have any furniture, but it is ok if you are only staying for a couple of nights. We did not think that El Calafate deserved any longer stay anyway. Ask to be at ground floor if you do not like to hear the wind rattling the roof all the time. The best part of the hotel is chatting to the manager and meet the over travellers. This was very pleasant and we really liked learning more about the local town and life in Argentina from the manager. He was very helpful with us and helped us sorting out pick up for our trip to Perito Moreno, after the tour company made a mistake with our booking! He also helped us with organising transportation to and from the bus station and the airport. He even gave us a flyer to get a free cup of chocolate at a nearby shop. There are no guest PCs available and no phones in the rooms, but you can ask to use the one at reception. ||Overall a very lovely stay and a nice relaxing moment in between long trekking days. ||We would definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I came to El Calafate for 3 nights and booked a room here at Koi Mahik.||The hotel was clean, no problem with that, but you get very little for your dollars spent.||No warm and fuzzy at this place. The rooms are small, one double bed, one chair, 2 nightstands,||and a bath. The sheets are old and worn out, pancakes are thicker than the bed pillows, and||if you don't run the faucet in the sink when you take a shower, one can't regulate the shower.||So watch out ! Breakfast is continental - no cereal, just toast and coffee. The owner has a||residence in the USA, so only wanted dollars for payment not local currency and wanted 10%||additional for using local currency. We had to call our booking service to make them accept||local currency at a reasonable rate of exchange, but even at that, it was higher than the||bank /official rate. It was not a positive ending.||On another note -- this hotel is at the end of town and there is no public transportation ||to town, only taxi at the rate of 35/40 pasos or $ 7/8 dollars each way. Also to note, a||taxi to and from the airport is very expensive, ||Your best bet is to stay in town for food, transport, and...
Read moreBeautiful property in El Calafate. Rooms were spacious, clean and fresh. Juan Carlos is a wonderful host and really made you feel like you were part of the family.||||It is located on the hillside so it does have some beautiful views over the bay.||||Room was serviced every day, clean bath and hand towel provided and the bed was super comfy.||||Breakfast was simple - fresh buttery croissants, tea and coffee but just enough to get you going for the day.||||Downside is it is a bit of a walk into town - 30-40 minutes so make sure you leave the house prepared in case of any unexpected change in the weather (if you do decide to walk it).||||Overall, it is a lovely property to stay at (especially if you are there for 3+ nights and like to get away from the 'hustle and bustle' of being in the main town and travelling with a companion) but I would still love to stay again even if...
