Good choice for location and comfort
S20°16′4″ E148°42′59″ Waterview Airlie Beach has six modern self-containing units. Numbers 1 to 4 are in to front building and have beautiful view on Airlie Beach and the bay. Number 5, in the rear building, is a large apartment with limited view. Number 6 oversees the front building. Waterview does not have private swimming pool, but the public Airlie Beach lagoon is nearby.
Our self-contained unit number 4 had a double bed and a folding sofa for another two guests. If you decide to use the folding sofa, it will block access to the bathroom. The bathroom has a shower and a hairdryer. The kitchen is not only suitable for making breakfast, but is fully equipped for serious cooking with a hot plate, microwave and fridge. The unit is equipped with split air conditioning, room safe, iron & ironing board, television. After repositioning the Wi-Fi repeater, reception was good. The double bed slept well. The sofa bed is small and more for two children.
The hosts, Bill & Jennie, take good care of you. They run a booking agency from the office. Just tell them your ideas and they will find many options.
In September 2018, we paid AU$150 per night for two persons for three-night, after contacting Bill & Jennie by e-mail and without using online travel agencies. Waterview is a good choice for value...
Read moreBEWARE, these people are greedy and don't hesitate to take advantage of their unflexible policy to take money out of you. We're a family with two kids and were to visit Airlie Beach for 3 nights mid March. Right before we were supposed to move up North to Airlie Beach, tropical cyclone Alfred hit the East coast of Queensland. It was impossible for us to go through Brisbane by the coast with our car and we decided to take an inland road to get there. Unfortunately, we came across cyclone path and had to go back and abandon our trip up North. We kindly asked if a gesture would be ok and couldn't get even remotely close to a gesture. Unlike all other hotel, or airline or even rental car agency who have been very understanding and accomodating, they camped on their policy to take the full amount for 3 nights. They claim they use this policy and don't budge for fairness to their potential client. This is a bad excuse, this is not even their policy, this is the policy they enforce to people who book via booking.com. Their policy is far more flexible and they wouldn't even allow for us to take advantage of this. Talk about fairness... This advocates for very greedy, unsympathetic people with very little customer facing skills. I would definitely advise anyone not to book...
Read moreAmazing water views and close proximity to town, with only a very short walk up hill, are undoubtedly positives for this accommodation. The room was spacious and comfortable, with the balcony being a highlight. Reception staff were most helpful.
However there are aspects to be wary of, including haphazard cleaning and a lack of warm bedding despite cooler night temperatures. The bed itself was comfortable but seemed only to be a double. A basic kitchen allowed for some self catering but its inclusions were minimal. A microwave with no microwave containers is of little use. Bathroom supplies were meagre.
Staying here over the weekend also had its disadvantages, with reception hours being only 10am to 2pm. Its close proximity to town came with a good deal of public noise and music that endured well into the early hours on Friday and Saturday nights. Whilst this is obviously outside of the owners’ control, it could be an issue for light sleepers.
All in all, this is reasonably priced accommodation for Airlie Beach which is definitely an example of ‘you get what you pay for‘. The views and location are...
