5 Stars – Perfect budget-friendly island vibes with great location and full facilities
My stay at Magnums Airlie Beach was a genuinely great experience. If you’re looking for something affordable, tropical, central, and social, this is the place to go! I stayed a few days in one of the private rooms, and it had its quirks, but the overall atmosphere and value far outweigh the downsides. Here's a full breakdown of what you can expect:
ROOMS The room I stayed in was small and had a bit of a musty smell, but it was clean and functional. It came with a spacious bed, a small fridge, electric kettle, and some cutlery – all the basics were there. The AC and ceiling fan worked perfectly, which made sleeping comfortable in tropical weather.
The biggest downside was the lack of sound isolation – you could clearly hear when someone nearby used the bathroom or shower, even late at night. Light sleepers should bring earplugs.
QUIET YET CENTRAL LOCATION Despite being in the heart of Airlie Beach, the rooms are nicely tucked away from the Magnums Bar, which means you won’t hear loud party noise at night – a huge plus if you value rest.
You're just steps from Coles supermarket, a bottle shop, chemist, McDonald's, and all the eateries on the main strip. The reception is right under the Clocktower, so you’re right in the center while still getting that tranquil resort feel.
COMMUNAL FACILITIES This is where Magnums really shines. There’s a fully equipped shared kitchen open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with air fryers, stovetops, sandwich presses, microwaves, fridges, hot water taps, and more.
You can request a basket and fridge label from reception to store your food neatly. Just a minute from the supermarket – super convenient!
The BBQ area is clean, well-organized, and has decent seating and Wi-Fi coverage. Note: alcohol and smoking are not permitted in this area, which keeps it calm and tidy.
Bathrooms are shared but regularly cleaned and distributed throughout the property. There are also wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and rooms available.
OTHER AMENITIES & SERVICES
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, with strongest signal at reception, BBQ area, and the Rec/Tech room. It can get slower during busy times.
Rec & Tech Room: Open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., it includes a smart TV, book exchange, computers, and a relaxing lounge space.
Laundry: 24/7 coin-operated laundry at the rear. You can buy detergent or ask for change at reception.
Reception / Tour Desk: Open daily 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The staff were super helpful, offering cheap tour bookings, airport transfers, local guides, luggage storage, and even eco travel bags, hair dryers, and extra blankets.
Volleyball Court & Outdoor Gym: Great if you want to stay active during your holiday.
Luggage Storage: Safe and weatherproof, open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ($5/night).
Hammocks and Picnic Spots: Relaxing green areas throughout the tropical gardens. It feels like you're in a little private island jungle.
SECURITY & CLEANLINESS There are 24/7 CCTV cameras and key access points to ensure guests only. No outside visitors allowed, which is a great policy for safety and peace of mind. The entire property felt clean and well-maintained during my stay.
CONCLUSION If you're staying in Airlie Beach for a short holiday, Magnums is an unbeatable budget option. It's tropical, social, peaceful at night, centrally located, and packed with features you wouldn’t expect at this price point. For longer stays, the compact room and noise may be something to consider, but for a few nights or a Whitsundays stopover – it’s perfect.
Highly recommended! Will...
Read moreunfortunately it was the worst hotel experience I've ever had in my entire life, I spent 3 nights being threatened and coerced, unable to sleep and even afraid to use the bathroom, as I mentioned before, the guests in the next room almost broke down the hotel door. my room, they arrived drunk and saying terrible things they were going to do to us because we were with two women, they said very heavy sexual words that I don't want to repeat, my niece came from Brazil to spend her birthday with me and we rented a room here and we simply had the worst experience of our lives at the Magnums hotel, where we were afraid to take a shower, afraid to brush our teeth or even leave the room, and what disappointed me most was the lack of support I received even after informing the the previous day and call the security guard as I was instructed and that I would not have any problems, after the security guard came and stayed for just 5 minutes and left, the events were even more frightening because they almost broke down the door to our room and we were afraid of being hurt , but the only thing they did was apologize to me, I should have called the police and not the hotel security as I was advised and I did not receive any support when I needed it or informed them of the events, and even the security guard when I called and I reported what was happening after he left, he replied that he couldn't do anything, because he had other places to go, anyway, I don't recommend it to anyone. Reply I'm surprised to hear your words and on the second day when I was really scared by the harassment from the neighbors and I went to look for you at the reception to report the facts, I even mentioned that I was going to call the police and you asked me not to and gave me the number the hotel security asked me to call them, and when the security guard left after I called him everything was not calm and he knew that, but as he said on the phone as soon as I called again because when he left then everything It got worse, he told me he had work to do in other hotels and that I couldn't stay there, that's when after a lot of insisting that he was scared, he said if it got worse for me to call the police, as soon as the day dawned I left the hotel walking the streets for fear of staying there before the reception opens. I would like to know if you would find it so normal and insignificant if your daughter traveled to another country and went through a terrible situation of fear and no sleep because of 3 guys in the apartment next door almost breaking down the door and saying words of sexual content, when it happens with you then you can invalidate, now with the other person you can't, don't talk about what you weren't...
