The location is drop dead gorgeous. Magnum’s is idyllic, keeping you cool in the shade of beautiful coastal trees. The rooms are adequate - the sheets feel like polyester cotton blend and the mattresses are fine. 2x blue towels are provided for showering, either in your ensuite or in the shared bathroom facilities. The ensuite is definitely spartan - the doors don’t go all the way up or down and the shower curtain is mouldy. There’s no screen doors to allow airflow while keeping out the mozzies, either! The service is acceptable; they charge you for luggage storage (why?) and are often too understaffed to handle the rush during peak hours. It’s also wayyyyyy to loud. The live music is blasted across the courtyard for everyone to hear all the way down the back of the accomodation. Even if you don’t like the music. Constantly. You can’t hear a thing! Don’t do that!!! In general, the place is clean and well kept with visible signs of active maintenance and landscaping work being routinely completed. The place offers free wifi for guests - be careful, it’s not password protected so use a vpn. It’s super fast if you’re near the rec room, but you get no viable connection once you move 40m+ from the room. If you get a room that starts with the number 100, as soon as you enter you lose all cellular (4G) and have no hope of getting WIFI. You’re a 2-5 minute walk away from Woolies, food and 7 mins to Airlie beach. For the prices, it’s magnums is a bargain, but there is certainly room for improvement.

Very pleased with my stay at Magnums! Our couples room was clean with a nice bed, the aircon worked well and the fridge was cold enough. The bathrooms were shared but few people shared each bathroom, in fact I didn't meet anyone during my stay, the bathroom also remained surprisingly clean. The kitchen was shared and had good gas stoves, toasters, microwaves, and basic utensils. The kitchen was used by more people so I sometimes had to wait to use the sink, but there was always a stove available. There was also a BBQ hot plate available outside in the wifi area. The rooms themselves are located in a slightly forested area and very close to a Woolworths, this means that you get some quiet and privacy at the hostel while having good access to everything you need for both a short and long stay. Staff was very helpful and you can rent luggage storage overnight for 5AUD/person (can store multiple pieces over multiple nights with no extra charge, quite a bargain really). Storage during the day is free. Overall I recommend Magnums hostel, the one slight issue is that cellphone signal is a bit weak in the rooms, and the wifi is only readily available in one area.

Paid about $70 ish for a private studio with bath. You can also get a private room with shared bathroom for less price. I loved the garden/rainforest style. The birds are so loud they were my alarm clock. Laundry only takes coins..The attached bar in the front had a live band that was pretty good. I stored my luggage here for 2 days/2 nights for only $5. The only thing is that the toilet seat in my room was wet and had long hair on it. Upon entry into the room, it smelled like clorox? So you knew they cleaned. I guess cant expect too much (like 5 star hotel) in a hostel. I just wiped the toilet seat with antibacterial wipes. The water in the shower had nice pressure and no issues with hot water. Seemed like there was no heater? It was a bit chilly at night but they did had extra blanket that I used.

5 Stars – Perfect budget-friendly island vibes with great location and full facilities

My stay at Magnums Airlie Beach was a genuinely great experience. If you’re looking for something affordable, tropical, central, and social, this is the place to go! I stayed a few days in one of the private rooms, and it had its quirks, but the overall atmosphere and value far outweigh the downsides. Here's a full breakdown of what you can expect:

ROOMS The room I stayed in was small and had a bit of a musty smell, but it was clean and functional. It came with a spacious bed, a small fridge, electric kettle, and some cutlery – all the basics were there. The AC and ceiling fan worked perfectly, which made sleeping comfortable in tropical weather.

The biggest downside was the lack of sound isolation – you could clearly hear when someone nearby used the bathroom or shower, even late at night. Light sleepers should bring earplugs.

QUIET YET CENTRAL LOCATION Despite being in the heart of Airlie Beach, the rooms are nicely tucked away from the Magnums Bar, which means you won’t hear loud party noise at night – a huge plus if you value rest.

You're just steps from Coles supermarket, a bottle shop, chemist, McDonald's, and all the eateries on the main strip. The reception is right under the Clocktower, so you’re right in the center while still getting that tranquil resort feel.

COMMUNAL FACILITIES This is where Magnums really shines. There’s a fully equipped shared kitchen open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with air fryers, stovetops, sandwich presses, microwaves, fridges, hot water taps, and more.

You can request a basket and fridge label from reception to store your food neatly. Just a minute from the supermarket – super convenient!

The BBQ area is clean, well-organized, and has decent seating and Wi-Fi coverage. Note: alcohol and smoking are not permitted in this area, which keeps it calm and tidy.

Bathrooms are shared but regularly cleaned and distributed throughout the property. There are also wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and rooms available.

OTHER AMENITIES & SERVICES

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, with strongest signal at reception, BBQ area, and the Rec/Tech room. It can get slower during busy times.

Rec & Tech Room: Open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., it includes a smart TV, book exchange, computers, and a relaxing lounge space.

Laundry: 24/7 coin-operated laundry at the rear. You can buy detergent or ask for change at reception.

Reception / Tour Desk: Open daily 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The staff were super helpful, offering cheap tour bookings, airport transfers, local guides, luggage storage, and even eco travel bags, hair dryers, and extra blankets.

Volleyball Court & Outdoor Gym: Great if you want to stay active during your holiday.

Luggage Storage: Safe and weatherproof, open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ($5/night).

Hammocks and Picnic Spots: Relaxing green areas throughout the tropical gardens. It feels like you're in a little private island jungle.

SECURITY & CLEANLINESS There are 24/7 CCTV cameras and key access points to ensure guests only. No outside visitors allowed, which is a great policy for safety and peace of mind. The entire property felt clean and well-maintained during my stay.

CONCLUSION If you're staying in Airlie Beach for a short holiday, Magnums is an unbeatable budget option. It's tropical, social, peaceful at night, centrally located, and packed with features you wouldn’t expect at this price point. For longer stays, the compact room and noise may be something to consider, but for a few nights or a Whitsundays stopover – it’s perfect.

Highly recommended! Will...

unfortunately it was the worst hotel experience I've ever had in my entire life, I spent 3 nights being threatened and coerced, unable to sleep and even afraid to use the bathroom, as I mentioned before, the guests in the next room almost broke down the hotel door. my room, they arrived drunk and saying terrible things they were going to do to us because we were with two women, they said very heavy sexual words that I don't want to repeat, my niece came from Brazil to spend her birthday with me and we rented a room here and we simply had the worst experience of our lives at the Magnums hotel, where we were afraid to take a shower, afraid to brush our teeth or even leave the room, and what disappointed me most was the lack of support I received even after informing the the previous day and call the security guard as I was instructed and that I would not have any problems, after the security guard came and stayed for just 5 minutes and left, the events were even more frightening because they almost broke down the door to our room and we were afraid of being hurt , but the only thing they did was apologize to me, I should have called the police and not the hotel security as I was advised and I did not receive any support when I needed it or informed them of the events, and even the security guard when I called and I reported what was happening after he left, he replied that he couldn't do anything, because he had other places to go, anyway, I don't recommend it to anyone. Reply I'm surprised to hear your words and on the second day when I was really scared by the harassment from the neighbors and I went to look for you at the reception to report the facts, I even mentioned that I was going to call the police and you asked me not to and gave me the number the hotel security asked me to call them, and when the security guard left after I called him everything was not calm and he knew that, but as he said on the phone as soon as I called again because when he left then everything It got worse, he told me he had work to do in other hotels and that I couldn't stay there, that's when after a lot of insisting that he was scared, he said if it got worse for me to call the police, as soon as the day dawned I left the hotel walking the streets for fear of staying there before the reception opens. I would like to know if you would find it so normal and insignificant if your daughter traveled to another country and went through a terrible situation of fear and no sleep because of 3 guys in the apartment next door almost breaking down the door and saying words of sexual content, when it happens with you then you can invalidate, now with the other person you can't, don't talk about what you weren't...

A Fantastic Stay at Magnum's Hostel in Airlie Beach!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Magnum's Hostel in Airlie Beach, and I cannot express enough how impressed I was with my experience. From the moment I arrived until the day of departure, Magnum's exceeded my expectations in every possible way.

First and foremost, the staff at Magnum's were exceptional. They were friendly, welcoming, and went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Whether I needed information about local attractions, recommendations for dining options, or assistance with booking tours, they were always ready to help with a warm smile. Their knowledge and expertise truly made my stay unforgettable.

The accommodations at Magnum's were top-notch. The hostel offered a variety of room options, and I opted for a dormitory-style room. The beds were comfortable, and the room was clean and well-maintained. I appreciated the thoughtful design of the communal areas, which provided ample space for socializing and meeting fellow travelers. The common kitchen was well-equipped and always tidy, making it easy to prepare meals. Additionally, the hostel's free Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, allowing me to stay connected with friends and family back home.

One of the highlights of my stay was the hostel's vibrant social atmosphere. Magnum's offers a range of activities and events to bring guests together, such as BBQ nights, movie nights, and game tournaments. These events created a lively and inclusive environment where I had the opportunity to meet incredible people from around the world. The hostel's communal areas, including the pool and outdoor seating area, were perfect for unwinding and mingling with fellow travelers.

Location-wise, Magnum's couldn't be better. It is conveniently situated within walking distance of Airlie Beach's main attractions, including the lagoon, shops, and restaurants. The hostel also provided easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and the stunning Whitsunday Islands, making it an ideal base for exploring this breathtaking region.

Lastly, Magnum's Hostel's commitment to cleanliness and safety was evident throughout my stay. The hostel implemented strict hygiene protocols, ensuring that all common areas and facilities were regularly cleaned and sanitized. I felt reassured knowing that my well-being was a top priority for the staff.

My stay at Magnum's Hostel in Airlie Beach was nothing short of fantastic. From the outstanding staff to the excellent facilities and the lively social atmosphere, every aspect of my experience exceeded my expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend Magnum's Hostel to anyone seeking a comfortable, welcoming, and unforgettable stay in...
