The First Day Drama at the Hotel
My stay at the hotel began with unexpected drama. Upon checking in, I was allocated room number 15. Shortly after settling in, I attempted to connect to the hotel’s Wi-Fi, only to encounter repeated failures across four devices, including my latest iPhone. Frustrated, I reported the issue to the reception staff three separate times. The staff member, who introduced herself as the “manager for the day,” assured me that the room had no connectivity issues and that no other guests had reported problems.
It was Christmas Eve, and she mentioned that her husband would be picking her up. She added that he might be able to assist with the Wi-Fi issue, to which I reluctantly agreed. When he arrived, he came to my room, claimed to have successfully connected his own phone, and insinuated that our devices were old or problematic. His dismissive attitude and refusal to acknowledge the issue left me increasingly frustrated. At that point, I asked to speak to the actual manager.
Instead of resolving the situation, the man became confrontational and began shouting at me. He declared that he was not an employee and therefore wasn’t obligated to help. His behavior escalated to the point of outright hostility, and when I attempted to walk to the reception to escalate the matter, he physically blocked my way. Feeling threatened, I had no choice but to contact the police.
Simultaneously, he called the police himself, making an exaggerated complaint that my entire family, including my 9- and 6-year-old children, was being aggressive. When the police arrived, they mediated the situation, and the matter was eventually resolved.
The man’s behavior was deeply troubling. Even at the reception area, he followed me and continued shouting, going so far as to threaten me by saying he would “ruin my holiday.” Such unprofessionalism and hostility were completely uncalled for, especially from someone who wasn’t even an employee of the hotel. I couldn’t help but feel pity for his wife, who seemed resigned to dealing with his volatile behavior.
Thankfully, another receptionist intervened and helped us switch to a different room, which resolved the Wi-Fi issue. I later spoke to the actual manager, who apologized profusely for the entire fiasco. While the situation was handled poorly at the time, I appreciated the manager’s acknowledgment and efforts to make amends.
To sum up, aside from this unpleasant experience, the rest of my stay at the hotel was satisfactory. However, the incident highlighted a serious lapse in professionalism and proper protocol, particularly in involving someone not employed by the hotel to handle...
Read moreWe caught bed bugs! First time this has ever happened in my life. It was horrible waking with several bites all over our bodies. They didn't care.
My primary school aged son and I stayed there. When I lay down in bed looking at my mobile screen to organise catching up with family in Tasmania I could see a few tiny bugs walking over the screen. I didn't know what they were until we woke up with itchy welts.
Before we got home I had to throw out all our clothes and our once reliable old suitcase. It's disgusting! One of my medically trained family members confirmed that they were indeed bed bugs.
Add to that the fact that the motel is built around the carpark so it's like an amphitheatre. Every little noise becomes 10 times more audible. Yes, really. The sound of a car door being shut or someone dropping their keys bounces off every facade.
Their WiFi doesn't work and lastly guests stay up all night talking in the carpark. I love international guests in fact some of my own family were born overseas. However just because you're jet lagged and can't sleep in a new time zone doesn't mean you should sit outside talking at the top of your voice all freak'n night!
The Tower Hotel literally has bus loads of international guests, regularly. Your pleas to ask guests to take their conversations inside, fall on deaf ears. They really don't care.
If you don't like bed bugs, which are hard to rid yourselves of and if you like sleep,...
Read moreI recommend you don't stay here. When I opened the door to my room, I was hit with a smell. I'm not sure what it is. Industrial bleach? The pillows and sheets stink of something. The bed is literally the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. It is hard with springs that stick into your back. It's so hard that my arms kept going numb. I had to get the doona from the other bed and double it up on the mattress to try to soften it. I think I'll have to go buy a mattress topper or I won't be able to walk soon as the bed is so hard it's hurting my back. The dude manning the reception has a tenuous grip on English and no grip on customer service. If I thought there's any chance I could get a refund, I would rather than stay here. I don't believe the 5 star reviews. I think they're fake. This place is so bad. The free WiFi kept dropping out, deliberately, I would say. Literally, the worst place I've...
