Thai Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Hobart

Unfortunately much like another poster, if you've ever eaten Thai in Sydney, a terrible food experience. I'm sure the perfectly cut (and mushy) carrots, beans and two pieces of cauliflower were from a packet of frozen vegies. The "curry paste" was a watery coconut tin and the rice was mush. Vegetable dishes didn't even offer packet tofu. The quintessential Thai dish "pad thai" was thin chinese noodles with some limp cabbage and hardly any flavour. It didn't even matter that it didn't have the usual bean sprouts, crushed peanut and lemon wedge condiments you get from a real Thai place. Unpretentious corner restaurant in North Hobart. It was convenient as we were staying nearby. Nothing much to look at but that wasn't why we were there. We wanted good authentic Thai food from a restaurant run by a family that cared about imparting their homeland culinary skills on their guests. And this is exactly what we got. Few bells, few whistles. BYO. Best Thai food ever - no. But up there in in taste, variety, and presentation. Highlights - beef curry puffs, garlic prawns and red duck curry with vegetables. Poor atmosphere - no music and sub-par decor. Ordered 2 chicken dishes, which would be exactly the same dish if the sauces were taken out. Seems like the only vegetables used in the kitchen are green beans and carrots. Chicken was small and bland, not reminiscent of thai cuisine at all.
