The examples and perspective in this article may not represent a worldwide view of the subject. (June 2014)

A restaurant is a business that prepares and serves food and drinks to customers.[1] Meals are generally served and eaten on the premises, but many restaurants also offer take-out and food delivery services. Restaurants vary greatly in appearance and offerings, including a wide variety of cuisines and service models ranging from inexpensive fast-food restaurants and cafeterias to mid-priced family restaurants, to high-priced luxury establishments.

Guidesedit

Main article: Restaurant rating

Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark, rated 3 stars in the Michelin guide, and named Best Restaurant in the World by Restaurant

Restaurant guides review restaurants, often ranking them or providing information to guide consumers (type of food, handicap accessibility, facilities, etc.). One of the most famous contemporary guides is the Michelin series of guides which accord one to three stars to restaurants they perceive to be of high culinary merit. Restaurants with stars in the Michelin guide are formal, expensive establishments; in general the more stars awarded, the higher the prices.

The main competitor to the Michelin guide in Europe is the guidebook series published by Gault Millau. Its ratings are on a scale of 1 to 20, with 20 being the highest.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, New York has two Michelin stars.

In the United States, the Forbes Travel Guide (previously the Mobil travel guides) and the AAA rate restaurants on a similar 1 to 5 star (Forbes) or diamond (AAA) scale. Three, four, and five star/diamond ratings are roughly equivalent to the Michelin one, two, and three star ratings while one and two star ratings typically indicate more casual places to eat. In 2005, Michelin released a New York City guide, its first for the United States. The popular Zagat Survey compiles individuals' comments about restaurants but does not pass an "official" critical assessment.

Nearly all major American newspapers employ food critics and publish online dining guides for the cities they serve. Some news sources provide customary reviews of restaurants, while others may provide more of a general listings service.

More recently Internet sites have started up that publish both food critic reviews and popular reviews by the general public.

I visited Meridian Restaurant today for their Iftar and dinner buffet, and trust me, this was hands down the worst buffet experience I’ve ever had in Bangladesh. From the moment I walked in, the environment felt unbearably uncomfortable. The cooling system was a complete joke—their ancient, outdated AC units struggled to function, leaving the entire floor hot and stuffy. Despite the ACs visibly running (and probably costing them a fortune in repairs), we were sweating profusely throughout the meal. It felt like dining in a furnace, not a restaurant!

The food was equally disappointing. The dishes lacked flavor, variety, and freshness, as if they’d been sitting out for hours. For the price they charge, I expected quality and comfort, but instead, it felt like a total waste of money.

If you’re looking for a pleasant Iftar or dinner experience, avoid this place at all costs. The only thing you’ll gain here is regret and a lighter wallet. Seriously, spend your hard-earned money elsewhere—where the AC works and the food doesn’t taste like an afterthought.

Zero stars for the effort....

Most probably one of old high end luxury hotels in Chittagong. Would give 5 stars if the cost was a tad bit less. Here are the features:

  1. Room had mini bar, Almirah, working Desk and sofa. Room was spacious. Room itself looked quite nice.
  2. Split bathroom (shower and toilet was separated). Cleanliness no complaints.
  3. Complimentary breakfast was decent and satisfactory.
  4. Staffs are professional and welcoming. Allowed late checkout without charging extra.
  5. Located in a really good position in the city.

Cons:

  1. A bit overpriced in my opinion. In this price range I expect a little more (eg. Swimming pool Or some visually appealing decorations)
  2. Some of the features looked old and wasn’t working. In bathroom it had blow dryer but wasn’t working.
  3. Hotel itself was just one floor and can't create any mention worthy first expression. Looking From outside didn’t feel like a luxury hotel until you enter room.

Suggestion: See your room first before checking in. They have different...
