I am genuinely so surprised this place gets high reviews. They must be paid for or something because my stay here somewhat tainted my positive 1 week stay in Bangladesh.
I was expecting because this hotel is in the capital that it would be of a higher standard than my cheaper hotels outside of the city.
This hotel did not meet expectations at all especially considering its price point. I've travelled through South and South East Asia and a hotel at this price point needs a much better service attached to it. I stayed in hotels throughout the Sylhet area and generally had a positive experience. However here almost everything was bad. Staff were either incompetent or rude. There was one woman on reception who was miserable and grumpy all the time, not a quality you generally want in the customer service field.
Also I wanted to visit some of the sites around Dhaka and I ask them advice on where to go. The little they know about their own city was quite remarkable and had barely any suggestions for what to do. They did though suggest I take a car, I was sceptical of this to begin with, because I was aware of Dhaka's traffic, however I trusted them. This was a mistake, we were going from the hotel to the Pink Palace around 10km there and back. This took in total 5 hours to get there and back (keep in mind I only spent 20min at the palace). Absolutely terrible recommendation when a CNG or motorbike would have been much faster because the car was far too big to navigate the tiny lanes of Old Dhaka. On top of that they charge 1000 taka per hour for the car. They gave me a one hour discount but for me that really wasn't enough, essentially I had to pay 4000 taka to sit in traffic for 5 hours, terrible advice and an absolute scam in my opinion.
The restaurant....don't get me started about the restaurant. The menu is so boring with nothing interesting on it and does not cater to vegetarians in any way shape or form. The restaurant staff are potentially the most incompetent I have ever encountered on my travels including their manager.
I never get why people put a 1 rating down. It was livable but in no way did it meet expectations and in no way did they try to make things much better when I complained, so it get a 2 from me. From start to finish I was incredibly disappointed...
Read moreA completely inadequate hotel in everything I booked a reservation for $96 on the booking and paid $100 at the time of check-in, but they asked me for extra payment at the time of check-out. The restaurant is also not good. You choose food from the menu and double accounts come after the meal. They say tax and service fees . Also, don't drink Coke because it's more expensive than eating. The rooms were not cleaned during my stay In addition, the personnel in charge of security say that the city is not safe and that I can accompany you throughout the day and demand a fee. I agreed and GJN joined me on the trip. Although he made an agreement for $ 90 in the same way, when he approached the hotel, he asked for extra money and when I did not accept it, he reacted by saying not to inform the hotel. The reception at this hotel charged me a taxi fee at night and said that I would go to the airport for free in the morning. In the morning, a different reception said that 1600 swaps would be paid. When I didn't accept it, I went out and transferred to Uber...
Read moreThis was a short stopover before my flight to Dubai. Having already stayed at Grand Palace in Sylhet, I decided to give this new hotel (around 8–9 months old) a try.
I booked a Deluxe Single Room — spacious, clean, and welcoming, with complimentary water and fruit on arrival. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. They even stored my luggage when my flight was delayed.
When I returned, the manager, Rony, kindly offered me a quiet room to pray in since the hotel was hosting events, and even showed me around their Halloween setup and introduced me to the chef and allowed me to sample some of the food.
From my 10th-floor room, I caught a beautiful sunrise during Fajr. The pool looked spotless, though I didn’t have time to use it.
The location is convenient — about a 20-minute walk to Ramna Park, with rickshaws easily available nearby, and Old Dhaka just a short ride away.
Only negative I can think of is the lifts taking awhile to get to you.
Overall, it’s a great stay for short visits or business trips. Thanks...
