I drive through Belgium quite often from England to track days and races in Europe (mostly Germany, east Belgium, and Holland) and usually travel Thurs night after work, crash "somewhere" and carry on Friday morning.. I say "somewhere" because I used to drive until I felt knackered and then rely on google to find me somewhere local-ish to where I was to stay||||About 7 or 8yrs ago I booked this place as I was travelling to Spa Francorchamps later in the year with two other people, and they were not keen on trying to find somewhere in the middle of the night.. It seemed like a good place to stop, and somewhere we could get to by midnight-ish, eat, drink then sleep so I booked it for an intermediate trip so I could check it out! (Nothing more embarrassing than booking what appears to be a nice hotel, restaurant, or whatver for people who earn 10x your salary and it ending up being a dump!). Ever since, if I travel across Belgium, this is my stop-off place!||||First time I turned up at 3am because I misjudged the distance AND was v.late leaving work, and the place was in darkness (understandably). I was thinking about sleeping in the car (not ideal - it has one seat, no heater and no carpet) at which point a very hot young thing on a bike (they all seem to ride bikes in Leuven) stopped and asked if I was lost. She phoned her friend who worked there and 10min later I was in my room, and had been offered a packed-up breakfast because I was leaving early in the morning||||The room was spotless and really nicely equipped/laid out. Spacious, decent shower and a very comfy bed.. Literally NO complaints from me..||Breakfast was great||||Every visit since has been the same - great standard of everything, and the staff are brilliant||||I agree 100% with one of the comments regards room rates - there are good and bad "times" to book, so its worth booking early if you can, or leaving it to the last minute if you can not to try and get a good deal! That said the rooms are not exactly expensive for what you get, and so I can't put this down as a negative||||Positives - Everything, its superb and its out of the very centre so its fairly secluded and there's parking outside.. I have no problem leaving an expensive car outside over night, or a tow car, trailer and rather un-secure race car. None of my friends who have stayed here have ever had concerns about parking on the street here either||||Negatives - Nothing really.. as mentioned you can get a deal on room rates if you pick your time wisely, but this is hardly a negative as when the prices are "high" they're still not that bad for what you get||||Overal - This is a great place to stay, and Leuven is an awesome town to visit.. I always say I will go there for a weekend and not just to stop over night but its not happened yet! I just hope the town doesn't become the next stag-do location of choice as I will be GUTTED to loose my...
Read moreThe following is a review of the Boardhousing Aparthotel which is in a separate building, a short walk away form the main Boardhouse Hotel.||||Although the building is old, the interior is up to date and properly insulated even if you might hear some street noise especially on market weekends. The room had a strange polygonal shape and a completely useless sanded glass bathroom door while the bathtub would leak and the A/C did not seem to be working except for just circulating air. That's what you get for the lower(ish) prices.||||To get a discounted nightly price for staying for 7 nights, I booked the room directly with them although they initially did not make any reservation as they considered that a room with a kitchenette would have been more suitable for a family with tho infants and they did not have one available. I insisted on having a basic room and got it but was also informed that there would be "no daily cleaning of the room" which was basically no cleaning at all during the entire stay (including taking out the trash).||||Almost every time I went by the reception there was nobody there (I just wanted to know what to do with the trash) but on the upside I did get to use the parking next to the restaurant. All in all, I would go back there again but not if I can find something better as even after a couple of months, I'm still in a love-hate relationship...
Read moreEDIT: Their reception is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., not until 11 p.m. as they claim. Initially, they said they had not received any emails, but now they have... We still have NOT received any communication that the reservation is cancelled.
They canceled our booking without informing us. We booked for a week and received a confirmation email stating that payment would be processed the day before check-in (Thursday). However, they attempted the payment on Wednesday, and it was rejected. They emailed about the failure, and I responded immediately (email received at 13:14, replied at 13:28) stating the issue would be fixed by that night, which I confirmed. Afterward, they ceased communication.
On the day of arrival, I contacted them via WhatsApp, and they informed me that the booking had been canceled due to failed payment and no response from my side. When I sent proof of my response, they stopped replying.
Summary: Payment was processed earlier than the agreed date twice, with just 2 hours in between. They failed to provide any solution in case of problems. Unprofessional conduct: ghosting the client rather than resolving the issue.
As a Belgian resident, I will pursue all possible avenues (ombudsman, EU consumer office) to seek compensation. I can't imagine the frustration for a newcomer or tourist facing this upon...
