Casa Geranio — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

Casa Geranio was our last stop during our Brasil trip. |We had stayed in various pousadas and were now accustomed to the kindness and quality of brasilian hotels and pousadas. |I was excited to stay in this place everyone on all sites described as incredible and wonderful. Maybe it was all the five star reviews that biased me, but I was a little disappointed. |Let me explain myself, and also start by saying I had a great stay all in all. |The hotel is definitely very charming and very beautiful, with tropical plants, old fashioned stairways and different areas around the property, the cutest pool and very comfortable sitting chairs and beds around the pool. |In the morning, during breakfast (which is very good, as everyone states it), it is lively and great. But after noon or so, when the owners, kitchen staff etc have left, the place feels very empty (because it is), and a bit lonely. There is always one member of staff should you need something, but you see what I mean. Same when you come back from a day in the city, it is very very empty. Some people will be happy with this, so this is not necessary a negative point, but I did not love it. There is no food service besides breakfast, but the guy who is here at night can make delicious caipi!! Thank god ! I noticed that in all the places I stayed in Brasil, there is always tea/coffee/snacks handy for people during the day. I did not see it there. |Pool area is super cute and nice, but keep in mind that during winter, the pool is icy ! |The room was nice and comfortable. Good bed, might need better lighting inside, but no big deal. |Location: well, I know what the response from the hotel will be : "you should have done your homework". Well, you are right, I should have zoomed better on Google Maps. It is between Lapa and Santa Teresa's main crossroads, meaning you have to walk about 15 minutes to either one. Honestly, I did not feel like walking in that empty dark street at night. So we called an Uber, and since it is so close to all restaurants, at least 5 cancelled on us. I finally managed to get one, and a taxi back without problem. |But if you combine the fact that after the sunset, the hotel is empty and that you can't just walk out if you need something, the isolation feeling was even greater.|After check out, they can keep you bag and you can still hang out if you want. Beware, to use a locker and a shower, it...

My family and I booked 3 rooms to stay at Casa Geranio (for 3 nights). Unfortunately, the day we were scheduled to travel to Rio we all got positive covid test results and had to cancel the trip. ||I immediately contacted the hotel and asked what the options were in terms of either 1) refund or 2) issuance of a voucher to be used in the future (knowing that this incident happened in March 2022 and the Brazilian law gave you the option to ask for one or the other till December 2022). ||First, (and against the Brazilian law) they refused to refund and instead issued a voucher for both reservations -which were under my name - to be used before 45 days (they completely made the rule up and decided that they would only allow us to use the voucher for 45 days). We accepted their conditions and received the voucher by email. ||A week later, we decided to book Casa Geranio again to use the voucher issued by the hotel and got in touch just to confirm that the voucher could be used. They said yes, and asked us to move ahead with the new reservation (please note that they ask us to pay the full amount for the new reservation and that they would have deducted the cost of the voucher and refunded us accordingly). They confirmed in writing that they would have deducted the amount of the voucher from the total cost of the new reservation. However, after we paid for the new reservation and booked the flight, they got in touch again and changed everything that had already been agreed IN WRITING! ||Suddenly, they said we could no longer use the voucher and that they should have never issued the voucher in the first place. THEY SAID SO, AFTER WE BOOKED OUR NEW FLIGHTS AND PAYED FOR THE NEW RESERVATION. ||We got quite upset and explained that they could not change what had been agreed in writing. They stopped answering to us and cancelled the second reservation. ||Being sick with covid and having to experience bad faith like that, is an experience we don’t wish anyone to get! The place is nice but the atmosphere there is awful, the honors are extremely aggressive and will do everything they can to get your money and leave you without your rights!||STAY AWAY FROM TOXIC PLACES...

Wundervolle Oase inmitten der Stadt! Rio ist Vielfalt, die ich jedem Menschen mal als Erlebnis wünsche und Casa Geranio bietet dafür die nahezu perfekte Basis.

Wo liegt Casa Geranio? Casa Geranio bietet einen wundervollen Ausgangsort, diesen spannenden Flecken Erde zu entdecken. Im Stadtteil Santa Teresa gelegen, lassen sich von hier aus sämtliche Sehenswürdigkeiten in nur wenigen Autominuten erreichen. Zudem sind 'Must sees' wie das Aquädukt mit der 'Bonde', der Arcos da Lapa, die berühmte Kacheltreppe 'Escadaria Selaron' auf der ein Teil eines Videodrehs von Michael Jackson stattfand, der romantische 'Parque de Ruinas' und weitere tolle oder interessante Orte fußläufig zu erreichen. ZB. ein Spaziergang durch Lapa und Centro bis zum Zukunftsmuseum 'Museo do Amanha' am Hafen, bietet einen tollen Einblick in diesen Teil der Stadt. Santa Teresa ist - wie viele der Stadteile Rios - ziemlich hügelig. Aber voller Charme! Kleiner Tipp: Lasst Euch nicht all der Sicherheitswarnungen wegen verrückt machen, aber leistet Euch vor allem ab Einbruch der Dunkelheit ein Taxi. Das gilt für ganz Rio de Janeiro!

Wie sieht es auf dem Gelände des B&B aus? Kurz: wunderhübsch! Den Kern des Grundstücks bildet das Haupthaus, das auf der mittleren Ebene des terrassenartigen Gartens steht. Auf einem Hügel. Der tolle Ausblick will verdient sein - ohne Treppensteigen geht es also nicht. Über eine serpentinenartige Steintreppe erreicht Ihr die obere mittlere Ebene, wo das Haupthaus und der Poolbereich liegen. In dem im portugiesischen Stil gebauten Haupthaus leben die beiden Betreiber mit ihrem Hund. Zudem befinden sich hier zwei Zimmer und der Frühstücks-/ Aufenthaltsbereich auf der Terrasse. Über zwei weiteren, voneinander abgehenden Treppen erreicht man die beiden anderen Zimmer. Rundherum und mittendrin zeigt sich eine liebevoll gepflegte Flora und man gewinnt einen Eindruck der facettenreichen Fauna Brasiliens. Ob blühende Bananenstauden, flink vorbei fliegende Kolibris, sich zum Frühstück gesellende Äffchen, die bunten Blümchen oder der atemberaubende Ausblick - es ist herrlich!

Wie sind die Zimmer? Ich hatte das 'Carioca'-Zimmer gebucht, das über einen eigenen, kleinen Infinity-Pool verfügt. Überrascht war ich über die zweite Terrasse, von der ich zuvor nirgendwo in den Bewertungen las. Man gelangt in den Bereich durch ein Schmiedetor, das mit einem hellen Leinenvorhang verdeckt werden kann. Im Eingangsbereich befindet sich eine 1. Terrasse, die bedacht sowie mit einer Lounge-Sitzgarnitur und einem Tisch bestückt ist. Über eine kleine Treppe gelangt Ihr zu einer 2. kleinen Terrasse, wo der Pool ist. Das Zimmer wird über eine Schiebetür betreten, die ein Teil der kompletten Glasfront zum Pool hin ist. Der Schlafraum ist geräumig und mit einem sehr bequemen Bett, einem Schreibtisch mit Stuhl, einem Loungestuhl und mit einem mit lokalen Getränken ausgestatteten Kühlschrank bestückt. Im zweiten, hinteren Bereich des Zimmer befindet sich ein Kleiderschrank sowie das tolle Badezimmer mit Dusche. Alles ist mit Liebe zum Detail, modern und mit Stil (!) eingerichtet sowie sauber.

Welcher Service wird mir geboten? Es ist kein typisches B&B und es wird Euch an nichts fehlen! Claudio, Gabriel & ihre beiden Mitarbeitenden sind äußerst herzlich, aufmerksam und hilfsbereit! So wie das B&B ausgestattet ist, wird es auch geführt - mit Liebe zum Detail und mit Stil. Das reichhaltige und leckere Frühstück zB. wird jeden Morgen frisch zubereitet. Claudio & Gabriel stehen stets mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Das Team versucht jederzeit, den Aufenthalt zu einem entspannenden Erlebnis zu machen und der Doggy ist einfach nur zum knuddeln.

Mein Fazit: Claudio & Gabriel haben mit der Casa Geranio einen außergewöhnlichen Ort geschaffen, den ich nur wärmstens empfehlen kann! Ich habe jede Sekunde dort genossen und sogar entgegen meiner Planung zwei Tage nur in meinem Zimmerbereich verbracht, weil ich mich so wohl fühlte. Sie haben mir einen unvergesslichen Aufenthalt in Rio de Janeiro geboten!
