We booked a standard room for 5 days for $306USD and checked in on Sunday evening at midnight when we landed in Phnom Penh. The front desk was friendly and told us that all the standard rooms were all full and we were upgraded to a superior deluxe room #806. I feel like this wasn’t true because our friends also booked a standard room at this same hotel and when we went into their rooms it was much bigger than ours.
They had blinds to cover for the shower glass room which is weird that they didn’t tint the glass walls instead. When we took a shower, the shower floor was flooded with water and wouldn’t drain smoothly which we informed them literally right after checking in less than 1h. They told us that they’ll have a maintenance person come in tomorrow to fix it.
The main elevator also stopped operating so we had to use a different elevator and then take another elevator to reach our hotel room. Luckily the main elevator was working again the next day.
They would call us every morning to ask if they can clean our rooms (kinda annoying) which we would say later because we usually prefer to sleep in. We dined at their Neak Mday restaurant on the main floor at the hotel for lunch and dinner because of the AC and for convenience which is on the pricer side compared to the local restaurants outside of the hotel.
We needed to do our laundry and the hotel charged per clothing item which is expensive as we had over a week of clothes worn from the previous country that we travelled at. We did get our backpack ($2.50USD) and t-shirt ($1.50USD) washed. It was returned the next day however the stains were still on there which we didn’t have time to tell them because we needed to use it the next day.
We dined at their Neak Mday restaurant on the main floor of our hotel for lunch and dinner because of the AC and for the convenience. This was our first meal in Cambodia and it is on the pricer side compared to restaurants outside of the hotel. Same goes for their massage services and laundry services provided for their foreign customers staying at the hotel as well.
For lunch we ordered Chhut Me Chong Phov (Chef's Set) - $25USD the fried rice in pineapple & grilled chicken was very delicious! It is expensive as this set wasn’t worth the price so most likely wouldn’t order it again.
For dinner we ordered M.01 - braised beef tongue with bamboo shoot ($8.50) & M.14 - fried dry chicken with lemongrass ($6.50USD) highly recommend this dish if you're okay with eating spicy.
The restaurant’s really nice and clean with full blast AC if you’re already staying at G Mekong Hotel. Overall, these are all minor issues and in the end we had a decent stay in the short amount of time that...
Read moreStayed in Room 305 for one night, and for a charming little boutique hotel, G Mekong ticks all the boxes. I understand the hotel recently went through a small refresh, and it shows. They now have a coffee shop in the lobby, Gold Coffee, and the lobby feels newly polished, almost like it’s had a beauty treatment.
Logistics tip: if you're using Grab, have them drop you off on Preah Monivong Blvd, not at the back by the seafood restaurant. Nobody wants to walk through a back door and wonder if it’s a staff entrance.
The hotel is well-equipped with a coffee shop, Cambodian restaurant, pool, and gym.
Sleep quality, however, wasn’t great. My room came with two smaller beds pushed together, which is never a comfortable solution if you need more space. My body is so massive that I woke up at one point concerned I might crash through the crack between the two beds. Needless to say, this definitely affected my sleep. (-1 point)
Cleanliness was good, but the room lacked slippers, a standard amenity in most places. I usually try them on, smile at how small they are, and then place them back, knowing giants like myself aren't the target demographic in Asia. (Neutral)
In the end, the hotel’s charm kept me entertained throughout my...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our stay here. Staff were always super friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Hotel is super modern.
Rooms are modern too - beds were comfy, stone bathroom with a glass window looking into the room (don't worry, there's a blind to separate room/bathroom so you're not giving your roommate a Red Light District experience). We slept well and didn't notice any noise from staff or other guests which was great!
The gym was reasonable by SE Asian hotel standards, although does take a while for the AC to kick in such that you are able to exercise! Looks out over the city too which is pretty cool.
Pool area is nice enough for a quick dip too. Bar next to it for drinks, nice views of the city from there.
Breakfast is so so - nearly went for 4 starts because of this but must be feeling kind! Egg counter and standard fruit and pastries, but fruit could definitely be improved/didn't always seem fresh.
Great location - about 20 mins ish walk to the Palace and Riverside area. Tuktuk to most restaurants was about 75 pence on grab for us. Loads around so always easy to get one on the app - recommend getting Grab though!
They give you free water every day too, just helps if you forget your nightly...
