Canalta Stettler — Hotel in Alberta

Where to begin with this hotel...

First things first the staff are all unbelievably personable and friendly. From the hotel manager to the cleaning staff you're not going to find a better place in Stettler to call home for night.

I work away on the road 10+ days in a row and have been staying at the Canalta since early June. The location is fantastic and essentially central to the town of Stettler. Walmart, and plenty of food options are within a 10 minutes walk distance (never mind the fantastic restaurant and lounge connected to the hotel - you gotta try the Greek salad).

Prices are fair and reasonable for a Canalta location. Especially for what is available to you (Gym, pool, hot tub and great staff to chit chat with in the morning, large and clean rooms). I would avoid the breakfast sandwiches but that would be the only downside to this hotel - the staff are more than willing to substitute the breakfast sandwich for other more life sustaining options (like an apple or yogurt) you'll typically get fresh fruit /fruit cups /yogurt /juice and a granola bar. If you're lucky you might get banana bread to(while supplies last lol).

It's very clear that this property has a "family like" atmosphere between the staff which makes for fruitful mornings and evening interactions with the staff. Also the towel animals on the bed at check in are whimsical and a great way to start your stay (shout out to Meg).

Staff was very efficient, friendly and helpful. Room could use some work however. It was obvious the room was not vacuumed, found a dead moth on the carpet by the bed. Spilt coffee stain on the linoleum by the bathroom, wasn't washed or wiped up. Only 1 bar of soap in the bathroom, for washing and for the shower. Would have been nice to have a couple of bottles of water in the room, went to go purchase some from the vending machine and then was offered it for free. Other hotels have bottled water in the room as a complimentary gesture. Only 1 "decaf" coffee pod, would be nice to have more. Telephone wasn't plugged in, wanted to call the office for information and wasn't able to use the phone as a convenience. Was a nice offering of breakfast, however it came in a bag. Would have been much better to have a hot breakfast from the restaurant. Or even to have the restaurant open for a hot breakfast. Bed wasn't all that comfortable but was ok. We both have bad backs so it means a lot to have a...

I am continually staying in different hotels and motels with my grandchildren, and this is one of my favorite so far! What made such a huge difference was the small touches that were made with a lot of thought to the guests. Some of those things include full size shampoo, conditioner, body wash.... Disposable cleaning cloths for glasses, makeup remover, shoe cleaner etc... Even the little card saying the name of the room attendant who cleaned it was something I haven't seen in a very long time. The complimentary breakfast is thoughtfully bagged for each individual person. Something else I greatly appreciated was the option/offer for discounts on the room (such as if you are an AMA member, or if you did the local train ride) where as I find the majority of places we stay don't offer any discounts. The final positive note is that 100% of the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Very outgoing people! I'm glad this was the place we chose to stay in Stettler and will again if we are...
