A lovely find. Montague itself is the prettiest place we saw in PEI being in a river valley. The inn is on the hill with a view down into the town. We had the Murdock Room with this great view and nicely furnished with antiques. The hostess is very cheery and friendly and you have access to a kitchen and lounge area with coffee and tea where we prepared and ate supper and breakfast.||||It seemed very clean and the bed was comfortable. Down sides – there didn’t seem to be any place to hang clothes and the light switch for our room was outside which didn’t matter as we were the only people staying there but I did worry if someone might switch it by mistake in the middle of the night! The inn is on a steep road up and there seem to be a lot of youths with noisy exhausts in Montague grinding up it, but the vehicle traffic ceased at night and we had a really good night’s sleep. There is an AC but I couldn’t work out how to open the windows. WIFI was pretty good. The house is old and higgledy-piggeldy but that is part of its charm.||||For the price, which included tax, this was by far our best quality and best value stay in PEI. You are only half an hour away from the Wood Island ferry here and you can walk into Montague from the inn and get supplies, visit the bank or PO and...
Read moreI have not seen a recent review on TripAdvisor - they don’t reflect the current situation with this establishment. After a very nice dinner in the local area, we returned to the Awakenings Inn to be greeted by the smell of cigarette smoke within the Inn. The establishment has no smoking rooms and a no smoking policy throughout the premises. Not sure whether it was the owner or a patron who was responsible, but it is totally unacceptable! As for our room, the bed was past its “best before” date as it sagged in the middle, squeaked terribly with any movement, and we had a terrible sleep. The lighting was dim and inadequate for shaving or putting on makeup. The floor under the bed was dirty, and the inn has a musty smell overall. Others have mentioned the traffic noise, no change in that regard. The only plus was the good quality toiletries provided and the charm of the antiques plus a nice kitchen and breakfast area. Breakfast itself was very basic but okay: bagels, muffins, cream cheese, jam, coffee, orange juice. I intended to tell the patron about our negative experience but they were not present during breakfast the...
Read moreWe were told the house is nearly a century old, and it has been lovingly maintained and restored. We had a view of the town and river from our room. There are beautiful antiques and replicas in each room--much attention to detail to maintain the turn-of-the-century feel. It's a short walk into town. The house sits on Route 4, which had a good bit of loud traffic the night we were there, but at least it did not go too late. I will caution that this is probably not the best place for any with mobility challenges. Lots of stairs, plus clawfoot tubs that are very difficult to safely get...
