Avoid The Lanes Riverhouse Inn – Terrible Experience||||I had a very disappointing stay at The Lanes Riverhouse Inn (Montague, PEI) with my 9-year-old son, and I would strongly advise others to avoid this place. We arrived to check in with the rates quoted at $133 per night, but upon arrival, we were informed that the rates had increased to $167 per night due to the new year. While I understand rate changes, it would have been nice to have been notified in advance.||||Our stay went downhill quickly. Within 20 minutes of arriving, my son went to his friend’s room down the hall. Suddenly, a staff member came pounding on my door, holding my child and his friend by the arms. She was yelling at me, demanding to know if the children belonged to me. Both kids were in tears, clearly terrified. Even if they hadn’t been my children, I would have immediately recognized that these kids were scared. The staff member continued to scream at me, accusing the children of disturbing other guests because they were running (at 1 p.m. in the afternoon). I thought this was completely overblown, but I apologized and quickly got the kids back in the room to calm them down.||||The woman continued to be rude and unprofessional, mentioning something about cancer patients staying at the hotel as if that justified her behavior. My child was so shaken by the experience that he never left my side for the rest of the stay. The whole situation left him terrified and ruined the rest of our trip.||||Also, once I got the kids calmed down in the room they said the lady was screaming at them saying that their was a cancer patient staying in a room. We later found out that the room was the breakfast room that the lady was pointing out to the children - clearly this was a scare tactic. ||||The issues didn’t stop there. Upon entering our room, I found cereal (Fruit Loops) scattered under a chair, which I had to clean up. Later, when I went to sit in the chair to work on my laptop, I was disgusted to find that the leather was completely peeled off and filthy. Worse still, in the middle of the seat, there was a large smudge of gum mixed with dirt and hair stuck in it. It was absolutely revolting. While the staff did bring me a new chair, this level of neglect was inexcusable.||||The next morning, I found an old pair of women’s underwear under the coffee table. When I reported this to the front desk, the cleaner came up, vacuumed, and found even more dirt, including old candy and moldy cereal she even had to get on her hands and knees to try to scrape the dirt off the rug. It was so digusting. ||||The TV didn’t work, and the fridge wasn’t cooling anything. When I asked to be moved to a different room, I was told they were fully booked. I requested a discount and was offered $45 off ONE night, which hardly seemed fair given the poor conditions. I even had to buy cleaning supplies to clean the room myself.||||To make matters worse, while discussing these issues with the front desk at check out, another staff member, who I believe may have been the owner, came out and started yelling at me in front of my child. This was the same woman from the first day who had brought my child and his friend back to the room by their arms, screaming at them for running. She accused us of causing problems and even falsely claimed that my child had been running around at 2 a.m. (which was a complete LIE, as I was with him the entire time and he was terrified to leave the room and we were both in bed at 8:30 p.m. each night watching a movie on the laptop because the TV didnt work). This was a false accusation and a blatant lie about my child to my face. This woman was rude, unprofessional, and completely disrespectful. When I told her I would never be returning to the hotel, she started clapping loudly and screaming that she was glad. She even repeatedly said how much she hated “hockey kids and hockey families” and that they would “never be welcome at hotel again.” ||||We also overheard another family saying they had to be moved after finding three cockroaches in their room, which further highlights the poor maintenance of this hotel.||||In summary, the lack of cleanliness, unprofessional and rude staff, and overall terrible experience made our stay unbearable. I would absolutely NOT recommend staying at The Lanes Riverhouse Inn. Save yourself the trouble and choose a better...
Read morerented one of the two-bedroom cottages for $350 for a weekend, so we could visit with some distant family. immediately upon arriving, the driveway was very icy; and each of us ended up falling bringing belongings from the car within minutes. after this, my wife had called the front desk to inquire about some salt being put down. also, the cottage was very dated- but that’s something we all could get past. after eating, we had checked outdoors to see if it was salted and all that had been done was some salt thrown on our doorstep- not even near the ice we complained about. i did my best to get what i could onto the driveway but it didn’t do much justice. later that night before going to bed, my son had gotten out of the bathroom and accidentally tapped the dogs water dish, leaving the floor a little wet. obviously; i cleaned it up, with one of the white hotel hand towels and that’s when to our surprise we had discovered the floors were pretty dirty. the area i wiped up seemed to lighten up from the rest of the floors. the next day; i woke up and found my hat under the bed (i have a super bad habit of falling asleep with my hat on while watching TV). all was fine, until my wife later pointed out my hat was covered in more dirt, lint, and dust. i looked under the bed with my phones flashlight; and it was very dirty, no wonder my hat was in the condition it was.
great place, great views; not so great service though. we’ve rented a hotel room here in the past too and i’ll say that experience was a much better experience. clean rooms; no need to worry about super dirty floors and my clothing has never been ruined. unfortunately this experience was just very unsatisfying. we’ll definitely be avoiding these cottages, and renting a hotel...
Read moreJust returned from our overnight at Lanes Riverhouse Inn & Cottages. This was our first time at the property. We stayed in the hotel which was built recently and our "lookout room" was said to be one of their best. From check-in to check-out, we were delighted with every little detail. The front desk staff were fantastic. Genevieve treated us like family with a warm welcome chat on arrival, suggestions on a dinner venue (she followed up when we returned from dinner to see how it went), details about the property and she even brought bottled water to our room late in the evening. The Inn has the most spectacular views of the Montague River. Our room was modern and spotless, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and we loved spending time on the balcony overlooking the river. This is a quiet and quaint property located within walking distance to two local breweries, several restaurants, shops, the Confederation Trail, groceries/gas/alcohol and several fast food and pizza places. Free continental breakfast bar was conveniently stocked with hot beverages, juices, fruit, bagels, english muffins, breakfast bars and muffins. The entire place was spotless. We had a blast and...
