After a lot of experiences (both near and far), you really notice when a hotel is exemplary.
From the moment I first enquired about staying at this particular Quality Inn, I had a good feeling. Even the phone discussion with the front desk staff and manager (I believe it was Estelle and Kevin respectively) to check on rates and availability was notable for both politeness and professionalism.
I was excited to see their newly opened and renovated property pop-up in search results. Since there aren’t so many brand new properties in that area and category (on the higher-end of the more budget friendly).
What I had hoped, was indeed the case upon arrival. It was set-up a little like a mini-boutique hotel, with a stylish 2.0 common area which includes two work stations and a handy automatic coffee machine which also makes hot chocolate and cafe mocha.
The rooms were very clean, fresh and modern, though following with boutique urban styling don’t expect the rooms to be massive (though they make up for it in efficiency). I personally prefer modern, clean and fresh versus large, worn and dated any day.
One of the best parts was their daily hot and cold buffet breakfast (included), which had plenty of choices and even a waffle station with chocolate chips and dried fruit. Not to mention hash browns, mini-omelets and other options that would rotate day-to-day. Plus they had the cold side which included: yogurt, cereals, danish, cookies and fresh fruit.
Now unfortunately, for the world, but specifically them ‘the pandemic’ came through just as they were hitting their newly opened stride; but they managed to power through it like champions.
So, due to no fault of their own the crisis caused it to become grab-and-go style. But at least they had something, which made it very helpful especially when shopping was a challenge.
Having professionalism is hard enough during normal times, but during a crisis it’s even more exemplary. So, I want to make another specific reference to the staff at the desk and managers Kevin (as mentioned above) and Kanil, whom despite dealing with a lot of moving parts remained polite, professional and respectful throughout what was a very difficult time.
A few other general items to mention, but for which made the stay much more comfortable. Them being in no particular order: ultra comfortable mattress, pillows and bedding — above average towels, cable TV with flat panel display, plus quality wifi/internet. The cleaning staff and the valets were also hardworking and deserve shout-outs of their own.
Very little if anything to complain about. Well, they did remove the bowl of complimentary chocolates — but again due to safety; so there you have it; a well-deserved...
Read moreLocation is close, 5/10 minutes from the Clock Tower Quay Street parking lot. It's good to know this since there's no/limited parking at this hotel that is shoe horned into its location. Overnight parking cost me $35.00. My room was really small. A big comfortable bed that occupied 3/4's of the room and 4 nice pillows, 2 firm and 2 soft. A small TV on the wall at the foot of the bed and a small table/stand under it. The TV volume isn't governed so you get what volume indicator reads. There's two wall lights on either side of the bed controlled by the wall switch or the switch at each fixture. However. If you turn these lights out you also turn off the power supply to the outlets on the fixtures. Off, you can't plug in your rechargeable items. Unless, like me, I left the power on and unscrewed the light bulbs. 😎 👍 The 'closet' has a safe and a microwave crammed into an already small space. You won't be able to hang anything with a long length because your clothes will only rest on top of the safe. The bathroom is nice, but. The water pressure is very low in the shower. I think your lawn sprinkler would offer a better spray. 😎 The toilet seat has a 'soft close' feature. The AC did not deliver at all. Luckily I was able to open the one and only window which faces the street during my one night stay here to keep the room temperature cool. If street notice bothers you and choose to close it. You'll find the room will get hot quickly. Being on the 3rd floor there's that heat rises thing. There's only one ice machine here and it's on the first floor. But it wasn't working. You'll be able to hear people come and go from their rooms as their doors bang and click-click open/shut. There's a limited breakfast served in a small area in the lowest level, (also called the basement in many other locations) of this hotel. Over all... If you're traveling light and you want to be close to a lot of site seeing or business related locations that are within walking distance and you don't mind a lot less 'room'. Then yeah. This is the ticket. The staff are great and will help however they can...
Read moreWe got a two double bedroom for a family of four instead of a two queen size bedroom, and I have to be honest, the room was tiny. I mean really small. We were very cramped. But, we knew we were getting a smaller room, so that's partially on us. The room however it was very clean, everything was nice, looks good, good condition, everything worked, and the beds were extremely comfortable.
Front desk attendants were extremely helpful, very friendly. We asked for extra pillows upon check-in, because I recently had surgery, and they had them up in our room ready for us when we got there.
What they call a fitness center is a bit lacking, basically one treadmill, one elliptical, and a couple of other small things, but their morning hot breakfast was quite good. All the standard variety that you would see at a Choice Privileges hot breakfast, plus a few extra things. Nutella!
The hotel is right in the heart of downtown, about a 20 minute walk from old Montreal, about a 20 minute walk from the waterfront. However, because of that, there is no on-site parking. There is a parking garage where you can park for between $8 and $15 (per day) depending on when and how long you park (no ins and outs... so if you're doing stuff in Montreal, walk, or use one of the many bicycles around town).
Also, the hotel is up a small flight of stairs, so if you're bringing in any kind of heavy bags, or you need to use the luggage carts to get things and/or from your car, you'll need to use the wheelchair lift located in front of the property.
But overall, we just really needed a place to crash. We were out and about in Montreal for 2 days doing stuff, so we did not need our hotel to be much more for us than a place to sleep, shower, change clothes, and eat breakfast. And for that, it was perfect, plus the added bonus of really, extremely friendly and helpful service. That's...
