So much beer! This was one of the first places we stopped in Montreal. We ordered a burger, mac and cheese, and a couple of beers. The mac and cheese was alright, though I prefer a stronger flavor (I'm picky: it's my favorite food), but we found we liked it more the second day. My fiancé enjoyed his burger and I really enjoyed the fries. In fact, I enjoyed them so much that I tried to come back another day for an order of fries to go because I was really craving them. They were busy and didn't really have anywhere for me to sit even if I'd wanted to stay, but refused to serve me because they "don't really do carry out orders" and the waitress walked off. I was furious. Thankfully I'd had similar fries at Le Pelegrin (which, I'll note, is also not a "to go" place), so I went there and they were more than happy to help me, albeit confused that I stopped there for fries with all the other fry places in the area (but they're not the same). Anyway, c'mon Saint Bock. We'd been looking forward to grabbing another meal with you before we left, but opted not to after that brush off.

Visited Montreal for the first time last week for my husband’s 40th Birthday. Both my husband and I are vaccinated, he has Pfizer and I the J&J. For the most part we didn’t have any issues getting into places as everywhere required our vaccine cards and Id’s but people were mostly kind until we got to this bar😡. The manger refused to let me in because I only had one shot. After my husband initially attempted to calmly explain and show her the Canadian Government website which shows J&J as an approved vaccine she stated “I don’t have time for this.” We were very put-off by this person’s rudeness and lack of compassion for visitors, especially since we had great experiences everywhere else. In the end another manger did look at our evidence and agreed J&J is an approved vaccine in Canada and that he would definitely speak with the owners so this would not happen again but that the other manger would not allow us to be served because we were rude😠so…we left. The WORSE place we went to for sure!

Long story short, the charcuterie and beer was meh and the service was the worst I've ever had. To top if off the waiter had the nerve to ask for a tip after not serving us the whole time! Very rude.

We are avid craft beer lovers and like to check out different microbreweries everywhere we go. We decided to stop by this microbrewery for a pint before heading to Osheaga as they had a huge list of beer on tap. Most brewed by them which we thought was impressive... until we tasted a few.

We ordered the charcuterie which was not very good (maybe it was a French style and we are used to Italian, who knows). My boyfriend had an IPA that was generic and I had a Berliner which tasted like water. Hands down the worst Berliner I've ever had... maybe brewing a few less beers and focusing on quality would be a better idea for them.

Anyways this was not the real problem. There was absolutely no service. We had to wait a really long time to order, eventually just pulling aside the girl bussing the tables to order. Then she brought us the order (in a semi reasonable time), but once our pints were done no one came back to even ask if we wanted something else. So needless to say getting the bill was a real task, we almost just walked out which we have NEVER done before. After waiting over 20 minutes, and contemplating going inside to ask for the manager, we caught sight of the girl who had taken our order. We asked her for the bill assuming she was our waitress. But nope! She quickly advised we need to ask our waiter. Our waiter!? Who's that we asked? She said she would go find him. At this point I am getting really antsy because now we are going to be late to see one of the artists at Osheaga that we reeeally wanted to see. Eventually she came back out and pointed him out to us but this was another 5-10mins later and flagging him down was no easy task. Anyways about 40 mins later we got to pay. Obviously we didn't leave a tip because this was the FIRST time we had even spoken to our waiter. Then as we are walking away he has the nerve to call us out on not tipping and calls my boyfriend cheap. Are you serious!? I used to be a hostess and waitress, been in their shoes, so we usually are very generous tippers (leave 18-20+% most places we eat). That being said, I also have principles and tips are not a given as far as I am concerned, they must be earned. If we had seen the girl that actually "semi-served" us when we were leaving, I would have handed her a tip. No way was I about to put one on the bill for the nonexistent waiter... and anyone that's been support staff to waiters/waitress knows how tip sharing goes. In most places it's at the servers discretion which means you don't get much from them.

Needless to say we will not be going back here. Terrible experience and instead of an apology, we got called names. Very unprofessional. Oh and we especially enjoyed running to/through Osheaga to only catch the last 10 minutes of the...

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!

I live in Ontario, but visit Montreal often for work. As a result, I have been practicing on improving my high school French. This weekend my wife and I came for a long weekend getaway and started exploring the city. I enjoy my craft beer, so I did some digging and Le Saint Bock came up with a pretty good rating. I read the reviews here ahead of time and looked past the "poor service" comments and thought with my conversational French, that it would be fine.

We sat down, it was a loud, busy atmosphere. The waitress approached us and placed some menus on the table. I greeted her in French, and she asked if we wanted water. I asked her to repeat herself, and she picked up that we weren't native French speakers. She asked, "English?", to which we replied "Yes". She then PICKED UP THE MENUS SHE HAD JUST PLACED ON THE TABLE, murmured some to herself, and put them back where she found them. Came back over, TURNED HER BACK TO US and took the order of the table next to us.

We left immediately. I have never experienced such disrespect from wait service. I know how to travel. I know that if you are in a city where your native tongue is not spoken, attempting to speak the local language goes a long way. This we tried and STILL we were disrespected. Montreal thrives on tourism. UNBELIEVABLE!

But not to worry, we went down the street to L'Amère A Boire and had amazing poutine-fondue and home brews that were excellent (and a cask brew too!).

VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET! Le Saint Bock does not respect their clients, otherwise, they would have taken action on this waitress who has repeatedly been identified as rude...

The service was friendly but once we received our food (which took a fair while to get to us after we ordered it) we didn’t really get checked on if we needed anything etc. Not a huge deal and nice if you prefer to eat uninterrupted!

My real concern was related to my food. I ordered the chili dog because it sounded like fun. It arrived and when I picked it up the bun was cold - I felt no heat whatsoever - so I just went in for a bite right away thinking that it probably wouldn’t be too hot considering I felt zero warmth through the thick bun. Oh man was I ever wrong!!! Despite not feeling any warmth when I picked it up, the chili was the temperature of molten lava. As soon as I bit into it I regretted it immediately as it completely burnt my mouth. I didn’t even complete the bite - as soon as I realized how hot it was I stopped biting down and took it out of my mouth - but the chili stuck to the roof of my mouth and literally burnt it so badly that a layer of the skin came off the roof of my mouth over the course of the evening 🥲 Mouth damage aside, that meal was very yummy once I let it cool down so I could eat it. I STRONGLY caution anyone thinking of having that chili dog to touch the chili itself before eating- just because the entire rest of the hotdog feels like it came from a fridge does not mean it’s safe to take a bite. I am just grateful it wasn’t worse; but my mouth is in a fair amount of pain tonight. I am the last person to complain about food being too hot and have a good tolerance for temperature but holy cow, this is going to hurt someone really badly if they...
