This is about my experience with Campbell Cottage B&B in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. It's just outrageous behavior of the owner of this house with a bunch of barking dogs through the window. We had a trip to BC, Canada to celebrate my 70th anniversary. This house was the first on our way and it has happened to be the worst experience in my whole life. We started the day early, were driving, US/CN border delay, long ferry waiting time to get to Vancouver Island. Eventually the ferry arrived in Nanaimo at 6pm. At 6:15 pm we stopped before house (which I would never booked just looking at it in the first place) with closed door, message on the door and barking a bunch of dogs in the window. The message was - You are late. We were forced to look for another place to stay in Nanaimo. The owner charged me for the night and refused to make a refund. Later she compared herself to the store, which closes at 6 pm, so no one will expect it to be open at 6:15pm. Wrong! This is hospitality business, Owner should accommodate late check-in may be by installing digital lock and giving instructions in email like many such businesses to do or by any other way. She decided to go the easy way - just stole my money. The Booking . com has rejected my review due to, I am almost sure, she complained that review is without staying. Yes, it is without a stay but it should warn people that such a thing can happen to them with this house/owner and let them decide whether to book it or not. Normally check-in time specified is considered as desirable only. If it is really mandated and enforced, owner must underline it, put it in the bold at the beginning and not somewhere between lines at the end. Read moreAll - be aware that this is not a "Cottage", but a lady renting a single room in her private home. While that may technically meet the criteria of a B&B in British Columbia, it is not at all clearly expressed in this site (compare it with her listing on AirBnB(dot)com and you will see she is far more clear elsewhere. There was no fridge or microwave inside the room (although it was advertised and pictured as such)The refrigerator on offer was in a separate private & very messy room and was more than half full of pet food and medication. When told that we did not understand that the booking was for a private room in a private residence, the owner changed her demeanor dramatically and said she would be more comfortable if we left, since we were not comfortable. She said "I will refund your money"...So we agreed and took a few minutes to find alternate accommodation. Read moreMy bedding wasn’t changed for 3 nights. When I stripped the bedding hinting for a clean or switch. I got in from my day just to get chewed out by the host for messing with the bedding. She was very rude about it and wasn’t shy talking with a negative attitude. I was in shock and felt guilty for nothing. I felt very uncomfortable after that and decided to leave. On my way out I explained why I was leaving, only to get a lecture and said my business didn’t matter. No apologies or thanks for coming. Just a push out the door saying she’s busy enough.
