They need to develop their barista skills. Their Americanos are poor in terms of quality if espresso as well as skill in making. They have been poor in "food safe" - going directly from cash to food, grabbing baked goods with hands or a napkin. They also grabbed a cup, touching the inside and lip of the cup with hands directly after touch cash. They did purchase bakery tongs, which is why I gave them 1 star. They overcharged me for a cookie at least once. Their coffee made me feel ill once, so I threw most of it out. I was having a difficult day within a very difficult life and was atypically rude one day telling people to "get out of my way". They seem to have been using this one event as an indication of my character in its entirety ever since, and from that perspective to then invalidate my input regarding hygiene. It is likely that it was the input of others, not mine alone, that led to the purchasing of the bakery tongs. I would not put it passed them to possibly tamper with your food if they judge you as unworthy of basic respect. The food is based on recipes of previous owners. It is poor in ingredients, consists largely of addictive substances such as sugar, and is harmful to Health. If I were healthier and more empowered I would not be purchasing coffee nor cookies from any cafe very often if at all. How about you? I will not be going back to Bocca as they are not trustworthy in their relations towards me. Also, generally, "consumer capitalism" as it has been expressed (profit for personal gain and reckless disregard for ecological and social and cultural Health) is toxic; to call this a "democractic" or "egalitarian" society, is a lie. True Freedom requires Health and Respect for Health, far clearer understanding of Love and far greater Respect for Love.

"Freedom had many wonders to show, that [vassals and] slaves how ever contented shall never know", not even in their...

This cafe is famous for their Nanaimo bars, displaying their various awards received for the various Nanaimo bars on offer. They have regular Nanaimo bars as well as peanut butter and salted caramel ones.

I tried the peanut butter and salted caramel ones and they were good. The peanut butter one had a mild flavour of peanut butter, with the chocolate flavour being more prominent; and the salted caramel being similarly mild with the salted caramel flavour except the bites with the prominent salt on top. Overall, if you're into Nanaimo bars then they've got you covered.

I also tried their coffee, specifically the cappuccino. Unfortunately this was nothing to write home about, not having great body and being pretty average.

In the middle of a weekday, this place had plenty of seats available both...

Definitely not what it used to be…the level of quality, attentiveness and atmosphere between staff have gone down many many levels from years ago.

On August 3rd, at around 11am, we witnessed the guy who was making sandwiches berate the cashier/server in front of customers, this is utterly unprofessional.

As for the food and drink, sub par. The salad and the soup, mediocre standard. The iced latte…watered down skim milk with…not sure if we would call that an espresso. The only saving grace was the scone, as it tasted and looked like what it used to be many years ago and the cashier.

Appears to be new owner/management, but it definitely has lost its charm that people once knew...

One of the best Nainaimo bar locations. Has many flavours. Evenly matched base to custard to ganache. Had the peanut Nainaimo bar which tasted like a Reese peanut butter cup! Also had a strawberry Nainaimo bar which was not a strong flavour of strawberry. Long flakes of coconut, chunks of walnuts in the base. Overall, the peanut butter Nainaimo bar is a must try. Cafe was small, has inside and patio seating around the shops around the cafe. Also got the rice krispies square, biggest rice krispies I've ever seen commercially made, hand for reference. Definitely a repeat visit when in Nainaimo. Really rated at 4.5 because of the Nainaimo bar varieties.

Love this place. - staff are friendly and helpful. - food: I only tried sandwiches I guess and they always taste super good. Drinks: I tried few; green is good if you like celery juice. I don’t so I didn’t like it, but still was able to finish it with the sandwich. Other drinks are really good. There’s one with coconut, super good in summer, very refreshing. They have some healthy options that are tasty. - ambience; clean. This is a new photo of post-covid. Great measures. Only one customer at the order area. And tables are distanced. A great cafe for two people at a table, maybe not a group.
