We wife and I were staying in Montreal for 9 days. For the 7th day, we decided to book a train trip to QC. I found this hotel online as being the best option for when arriving by train. It is an easy 5 minute walk from Gare du Palais. We arrived Wednesday, August 7, 2024, went to check in at 1PM, but they are firm on not allowing check in until 3PM. They did store our luggage for us though. From the hotel it is also an easy walk to Old Quebec walled city. Just two blocks away is the street that curves around and you can walk all the way to the top. If that is too much incline, then a 12 minute walk on level ground to the Funicular offers a ride to the top. |When we came back to the hotel about 4PM, our room was ready, but they had also taken our luggage up to our room for us. What great service!! We received a room on the top floor (3rd floor above the main floor). This room was along the roof line so the room has some odd angles in both the walls and ceiling. We liked it, plenty of charm. The room was very nice, appearing to have had a recent renovation. Spacious bathroom and bedroom was very nice, great furniture and we had two windows facing the waterfront. Breakfast is not included here, but there are several options within 3-4 blocks. There is a restaurant on the main floor, but we did not try it. The hotel is located Rue St. Paul, also known as "antiques row", so there are 4 or so antique shops within a few blocks as well. The hotel staff here are super friendly and helpful and are very wiling to offer information. We checked out in the morning about 9:30 AM and they stored our luggage again until 2PM when we left for the train station. We very highly recommend this hotel for a stay in...
Read moreExcellent location for walking to shops and restaurants. Hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. We were on the third floor and grateful for the elevator since we had heavy suitcases. The bathroom in our room (#36) had been nicely renovated. We had a scenic view of the harbor in the distance. There were outlets on either side of the headboard for convenience in charging your phone. There is an ice machine in the lobby and our room had a coffee (Keurig-like) machine and a small fridge. The room is spacious. No bathroom in the lobby, in case you were just getting off a cruise ship. The staff let us store our luggage after we arrived in the morning and also let us store it the day we left since we had to vacate the room by 11 and leave for the airport at 2:45. The staff also ordered a taxi for us the day we left. A trip to the airport is about 30 minutes and cost us $45. A taxi from the cruise port cost us only $10. You could walk, but if you have luggage, I wouldn't recommend it. We mostly enjoyed the Governor's Promenade along the St. Lawrence River in front of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. There is a Tim Horton's not far from there for doughnuts and coffee. Our favorite meal was at Le Petit Chateau where we had lunch outdoors while listening to a guitarist who played Cat Stevens songs and other...
Read moreThis was worth the price. However, there are design flaws management should not have signed off on. The staircase is carpeted with the same schema as the hallway and my room, wall to wall, a striped black, grey and off white. Exposed wood is painted black. Such a shame for an historic building. The carpet is naturally a sponge for winter conditions. The shower has a great overhead and a removable wall head each which can be switched between, but the shower has a 40cm entrance-way that cannot be closed, so water and soap spray out. The sink has no ring for a hand towel. The main bathroom light resembles an optometrist's exam light set directly into the mirror, blinding when eyes are dilated at night. The king bed is squeezed in, a queen would have done just fine. The TV is set into a large floor-to-ceiling block of furniture, double the width of the TV, creating a choke-point with the bed between the doorway and the rest of the room. The room unfortunately gave the feel of a beautiful person with botox, an historic hotel glued over in Ikea-inspired furniture. The front-desk host was quite nice. The room was clean. The toilettries were complete, including mouthwash. Overall, for the right price, I would stay again, but whichever management team approved the design, at least of room 33, could use this as...
