The W Hotel - I’m guessing the W stands for Wallet because that’s definitely what they’re after, and they don’t make up for it in service or quality. This was our first time staying at this luxury hotel in Toronto. The first thing to note is if you’re driving a large SUV or truck you might not fit in the underground parking (very short ceilings and very tight down there). You can valley, but they charge $75. You then need to take two elevators to get to the front desk located on the 6th floor. The hotel itself does look fancy with a well decorated interior, bar, and lounge area. When we checked in we were offered a room upgrade, but the process took over 20 minutes to complete and we were already running a bit behind for a show so we said thanks but no thanks. The rooms are small but sheik, so if that’s your thing then you’ll like the layout. It also had a number of switches and button to turn on lights and close the blinds, so if you’re not tech-savvy you might have a hard time navigating the room. We were surprised that the room was so warm, esp at night. Despite the cost of the room, they seem to want to keep a tight grip on their hydro bill. The day we were there it was 36 with the humidity, and even though the room showed it was trying to get to 64, it felt more like 70-72. Again if you like sleeping in that temperature then you’ll love it, but if you like it colder, avoid staying here in warmer months. Thankfully we had a breakfast included with our package, but I was pretty flabbergasted to see the breakfast bill at $80.57 (coffee, latte, and two simple breakfast dishes). Despite the cost, simple customer service experiences like remembering to fill our water or coffee were missed. Our package also included a $100 USD credit to use during our stay, which we were told at checkin could go towards our room. Then on checkout we were told we couldn’t do that, and proceed back up to the room to grab a few super overpriced items from the minibar just so we could use the credit (a can of pop was 5.50 for reference). My final comment regarding this hotel stay is that during checkout we were never asked how we enjoyed the stay or if we had any feedback. I also watched the person in front of us checkout, to which they were also not asked for feedback about their stay. I find this odd. Why not collect the first-hand feedback right then and there. If they had, I might not have felt the need to leave this review. But alas, I felt compelled to share my feedback of this luxury hotel so you can judge for yourself. Is the W for “WOW” or for...
Read moreI stay downtown Toronto a lot and 99% of the time at Marriott brands. I thought I'd try the W, well not so sure I'd stay there again.
It's currently under renovations which I was unaware of. My room wasn't ready, yes I was early, so that was fine but other Marriott brands usually have my room ready if I indicate in the app check in the time I'll be arriving. Which I did. Their check in is on the 6th floor I believe cause of the renos. Long day of travel and wanted to grab some food from outside the hotel and bring it back to the lounge to eat. But they don't really have a lounge right now and the only place to sit and chill is the restaurant, which quite frankly looks like a lounge with a bar vs a real restaurant. Well I was told I should bring food in there. Annoying start.
The room itself has lighting and drapes control by one electronic panel by the door. Seems there is zero control of lighting beyond this panel. So at night if I wanted the larger light hanging by the bed on for a while I'd have to get up to turn it off eventually. You basically can't control your lighting by lamp, it's all or nothing plus a night light option.
Then the AC just could not get the room cold enough and it wasn't even hot outside. It was maybe 21 outside and cooler at night and with the AC turned all the way down it still was warmer in the room than I wanted. No way it matched the temp setting.
If you stay on the 6th floor do not get a room close to the entrance of the hallway for the rooms. Because a few hundred steps away is that restaurant/bar I mentioned. Well they have speakers even in the open area just outside the hallway to the rooms that played music loud enough that I could clearly hear it in my room until later into the night. You can also clearly hear people outside the room all night, high traffic public area.
And finally, the walls are paper thing. I could very clearly hear the people in the room beside me talking all night. And they were not being loud. It was just a normal talking volume and I could almost make out every word being said. I've actually never had a room in downtown Toronto that I could hear the people beside me so clearly.
I rarely complain when I'm on a business trip but this hotel just won't be on my list of repeat hotels I stay at. As a Platinum Elite member at Marriott I have other hotels downtown that make me feel more welcome and have a better ambiance than the W. I tried......
Read moreI didn’t know that there are THEIF’S at this hotel. Be aware everyone! Let’s start with the first photo with the guy at front desk. They put this guy at front desk. What a joke! Awfully rude with attitude.. where’s your customer service bud? Is this how you train your staff W Toronto? Makes your company look really bad with this individual. I would NOT recommend my family or friends either to your hotel not even myself and everyone think twice before going to this place. because of this in ideal Incident that happened today Sunday March 23 at around 440am in the morning. The issue here is that I delivered an order to one of the guests at this hotel in room 705. And I gave it to the guy at front desk. The guy on the first photo I am referring to. THE UNPROFESSIONAL ONE. I dropped off an order and he said to leave it with him. The customer called and said that they didn’t receive their food. Why is that? And the guy at the front desk said that the customer came down to get the order but the customer didn’t receive the order and why is the customer calling me to say they didn’t receive the order? So either the guy on the first photo took it.. thats why I came back to confront him. or he gave it to the wrong person because CLEARLY the customer that the order was for didn’t receive it. I didn’t know there are thief’s at this hotel. Not only that the guy probably gave it to the wrong person. He accused me to stealing the order and said it’s my fault. How??? and When I confronted him he gave attitude and I said there are cameras. this is really really wrong what happened and something needs to be done about this. I will be involving my lawyer. The guy on the second photo claims to be a “manager” who was awfully rude also. Didn’t do his job to manage the situation but was rude! Third photo was the security guard who came out of no where doesn’t even know the situation and says I’m trespassing from the hotel.. how? When I was delivering to the hotel how is that trespassing? And said I was banned? Hahaha! We will see about that. He works for JMC SECURITY SERVICES and I will be making a complaint to the head person of the company of his unprofessionalism. Your job is to deescalate which you failed to do so. Saying I’m trespassing when I wasn’t. Wait till you hear from your supervisor buddy! I will be reaching out and making a complaint especially because you refused to give your...
