Hostal H&W — Hotel in Castro

In the case of this hostal, you get you pay for $12 for a private room, shared bath, $20 for a private room and private bath. While it is across the street from the water, it is also across from the shipping port and next door to commercial buildings in a sketchy looking area. Let's just say, not pretty. After booking the property online, I received a confirmation, rates, etc, everything BUT the address and phone number. I confirmed my reservation and still nothing. Told the owners what bus I would be arriving on from Puerto Montt and what time I would arrive. I was sent by the Plaza tourist information center to the wrong hostal and then after dragging my luggage down many flights of stairs to the main street where they are located (Pedro Montt), I stood in the pouring rain outside the hostal door for over a half hour and noone answered! This upset me enough not to stay and because I couldn't access wifi, I couldn't reach anyone to answer the door. When I finally did reach them online, there was no explanation and no apology! What a horrible way to enter Castro. Fortunately, I found much, much better...

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 2 nights and it is run by a young couple that have a private flat internally within the building. They are nice people but unfortunately the hostel is not close to what we would describe as clean, it's really cold, the kitchen smells and has very little in the way of utensils and plates etc. ||The only reason this hostel has 1 star is because the owners were kind enough to supply us with a heater for our room; this did take the edge off the cold. However they initially asked for 5,000 pesos per day for the heater but we were not prepared to pay for a heater for our room when it was cold enough that we could see our breath. ||Unfortunately I can't recommend...

The owner of the place (a couple) is really nice! But... The room has the strict minimum in terms of furnitures and the bathroom is dirty - I mean really dirty.||So for the same amount of money you can find...
