After hiking the Las Horquetes circuit backwards (highly recommend), we desperately needed a shower and warm place to stay. We also wanted to find a relatively cheap place since prices are expensive in Coyhaique. Hostal Maria Ester lived up to our expectations and provided the cleanest beds, bathrooms, and common spaces we’ve seen in a while. We paid a total of 35000 for a 1 night, 2 bed stay (separated), no private bathroom. Although the room was small and the walls didn’t block our snoring neighbors, it fit all of our trekking bags and was especially cute with the sunset lighting—we got room number 2 which comes with 2 hangers for clothes, a small side table for charging all of our electronics, and a decorated desk (w/ mirror!). Our room didn’t include towels, but we asked and she provided 🙏🏼. We had to use shared bathrooms, but there are more than enough in this hostal: 2 upstairs and at least one downstairs. Sometimes the toilet paper is empty so it would be handy to buy some at Unimarc or other small shops. There is soap but it may be empty. The shower also has shampoo, but don’t rely on it. A big turnoff may be that there is no kitchen use—however! You can use the sink for potable water/washing dishes, the water kettle for instant oatmeal or just plain hot water, and the microwave! I noticed that the soap was empty, so you might want to buy your own dish soap… Check out time is at 10:30 AM. If you’re not ready by then, she’ll charge you for another night because she needs to clean the rooms at this time. We asked if we could use her WiFi after check out time downstairs and she said yes (but we decided just to stay another night c:) — the WiFi is fast btw. The new owner is extremely nice and told us that everything is free to use 😂 (the previous owners wanted to charge everyone if they needed to wash the dishes or use the hot...
Read moreI hitchhiked into town without a notion where to stay. This was the second place I walked into. At first the price seemed steep at 8000 with no breakfast, but at second thought I understood you get a private room and not a dorm. Other places were 10000clp with breakfast|| The room is a bit small but cozy; bed big and comfortable for a single; tons of blankets as there's not heating in rooms. plenty of storage place. The hospedaje is pleasant enough and with a homely design; people running it seemed very nice thought don't speak English. Place is very clean and cleaned daily. Two bathrooms on my floor, but only one has an actual bath/shower.|| All things concerned it could have been a great stay and highly recommend if not the following: You have to pay for kitchen rights, 2000 per day and if not there's a ridiculous list of charges: filling up water bottles; using dishes; using the microwave;boiling water etc'. I felt so embarrassed I didn't even eat downstairs out of fear I will be billed for leaving crumbs. I only ate in my room including boiling water in my cup. basically you have to pay 2000 to have breakfast that doesn't include much, and/or another 2000 to cook. That alone really spoiled my stay nd left me with a bad taste. I was very comfortable though so if the kitchen issue doesn't bother you, or you eat out during your stay - place is...
Read moreImagine paying for being accepted to stay in someone’s home on his strange terms and rules - this is how it feels to stay in this hostel (I would not even call it hostel). It feels like staying in the señoras private area and she makes you feel uncomfortable while doing so. After 2 nights she told us that she would leave the house for the day and lock everything. We could chose to either stay inside or outside (she denied giving us a key). We decided to check out instead after she even turned off the WiFi. The rooms are simple but clean. There are only two showers for the entire hostel. For cooking you have to use the gas stove in the driveway. The price was fair. Overall not...
