Pälm Hostal — Hotel in Iquique

The Palm Hostal and B&B was probably one of the worst places we have stayed in since arriving in South American seven weeks ago. Our room was dark with a window facing a brick wall and it was not very clean. We requested a double room with a private bathroom and got squeezed into a room with a set of bunk beds with a double bed pushed up against the wall. The lightning in our room was totally inadequate and barely worked. The breakfast we were served was absolutely awful. Instant coffee, dry white toast, one piece of old cheese and one piece of old ham sausage. We also got a granola bar that was an added bonus. The owners two dogs barked constantly and the people who lived in the back area of the Hostel kept us awake until after 11:00 PM with their loud voices. Their staff do not speak any English and were not that helpful, although they did call us a taxi when we wanted to leave. For this horrible, dirty, dark, and noisy Hostel we paid about $80.00 CAD. rooms were very clean but small and breakfast was mediocre. Location is very close to the beach and convenient to walk to which was great! My problem with this hostal was the lack of hospitality. I am used to small rooms and a mediocre breakfast, but being asked to leave the premises while we were kindly keeping to ourselves just waiting for our bus to leave was too far. The front desk lady was VERY rude and even after we explained we were waiting for our bus she made us leave. La ubicación es excepcional. El sector es seguro y tranquilo. Está a pasos de la playa de Cavancha, del casino y de la locomoción. Tienes los mejores pub y restaurantes a un paso. La atención del personal es correcta y amable sobre todo las mucamas. Se le podría sacar mucho más provecho pero le falta mantencion y orden. Las habitaciones son antiguas y algunas sin ventilación ni comodidades. Los muebles son antiguos y algunas habitaciones no tienen closet. Enchufes y duchas en mal estado. Las mejores son las del 2do piso que tienen bonita vista y son más cómodas aunque si abres la puerta del ropero se atrapa con la puerta del baño. Tienen una terraza que si estuviese ordenada sería mejor. Demasiadas cosas juntas sin un orden. El desayuno es sólo un snack escolar y donde dan lo mismo todos los dias pero salva. El lugar es un diamante en bruto que solo necesita un poco de inversión y renovación. Para alguien que sólo va a dormir y no necesita comodidades...
