Stayed for one night while passing through Puerto Montt as anybody exploring the south of Chile is bound to have to do (the local nickname Muerto Montt is pretty accurate). The street this hotel is on looks kind of dodgy but maybe that's just the way the city is. The staff had messed up our reservation so that was the first drawback but to their credit they quickly found us a room, though it was a twin instead of our preferred double. Now the room just looked like an average cheap hotel room but when I opened the curtain on the small window it revealed a dim view of a drain pipe and the opposite wall only about 2 metres away. This may not bother some but I hate having no natural light (we had to turn all the lights on in the morning to see what we were doing) and I found the room claustrophobic because of this. Also when we opened the window we had to listen to the sounds of the kitchen below. ||||The only saving grace of this hotel for me was the food and the service, we had a pretty decent dinner and breakfast there and the staff were very helpful. One offered to drop us to the airport in the morning, he did ask for a fee but it was easier than booking a taxi and not knowing if it would show up. ||||This place is not that bad as hotels go but it is overpriced...

That said, the staff were very nice and even though they couldn't speak english they made a plan with google translate. Our room was nice, very clean and comfortable. The hotel is also only a few blocks from the main bus station - which we were comfortable enough to walk to during the day. Don't think we'd stay here again (only because of the...
