MaPatagonia Hostel Monumento Nacional — Hotel in Puerto Varas

A great hostel with some of the best common areas of any hostel I’ve been to. The kitchens are modern and clean and a pleasure to use. A very social and good vibe, and super friendly helpful staff. Fast reliable WiFi which reaches all areas, and very clean. The location is great being just a short walk from all the town’s amenities and there are two big supermarkets very close by. Off-road parking is also available for hire cars. I really enjoyed my stay here.

The only downfall was the shared dorms which let the place down a little. Bunks have no privacy especially the top ones with no privacy curtains, the lockers are next to the lower bunk’s head with no curtain so if I went to my locker I was inches away from the person sleeping below’s face. There are no bedside lamps, so awkward use of phone torches or disruptive big light on. The doors to the dorm were very loud and squeaky so every time someone opened it to go to the toilet it woke everyone up. It meant regular disruption and awkward encounters. The dorms also got insanely hot at night (24°) as the heating was on too high and it made it difficult to sleep. All of this can be easily fixed; Please get new proper dorm bunk beds with privacy curtains on both top and bottom and bedside lamps for all beds. Install a better thermostat/heating system to ensure the rooms don’t get way too hot, 16-18° is the ideal room temperature for sleeping. And replace / repair internal doors so they aren’t loud.

All in all I’d still stay here again, given how fantastic the common spaces and staff were, but get a private room and not a dorm to be able to...

I loved my stay here! One of my favourite hostels I have ever stayed at. I wasn't even meant to stay in Puerto Varas but snow at the border meant I ended up staying for 4 nights. I fell in love with this hostel and the staff. The beds and commons spaces are super cosy and comfortable. The bathrooms are clean, with hot water. Something to note is that there are two separate hostel buildings, this seems to be the secondary one. The room and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. The common area and kitchen were well taken care of. The staff was friendly and helpful. Short walk up the hill from town. The only downside is that the house is historic, which means the floors make a lot of noise, so you will hear people in the morning who are leaving early or coming in late at night....
