This hotel is a gem. It is superbly located in a quiet Hutong street with many nearby shops, cafes and restaurants. It is only about 5 minutes walk from Zhangzizhonglu subway station on the number 5 line, which is great because the number 5 line intersects virtually all the other lines making it easy to access Beijing's main attractions. The rooms are very comfortable and I think the quality of the facilities exceeds the hotel's star rating. The staff are by far the best feature of this hotel. Everyone – from the reception staff to the chamber maids – is friendly, cheerful, welcoming and helpful. After a few days they felt like family, and when we went on an overnight tour we each looked forward to coming back 'home' to be greeted by the young ladies at reception. The reception staff are delightful and charming. They have a good functional command of English and are willing to do whatever they can to help. They even offer free dumpling-making classes for guests, which is a great ice-breaker (and the dumplings are good too). The Western-style breakfasts are not fancy, but they are wholesome and help you to get a start on your day. If you're too tired at the end of a long day touring, they offer simple, tasty meals in the hotel dining room (room service also available). Beer and cold drinks are available at all times for very reasonable prices. This is a small hotel with a big heart. We felt a bit sad leaving, but if we return to Beijing I can think of no better...

When I couldn't connect to wifi, the receptionists asked the hotel manager to help me. When he tried to install the Chinese language onto my laptop, I said this is impossible because my computer is managed by my company so any additional installation must be approved by them. The owner of the hotel got extremely angry. He started kicking the chairs in my room, saying the F word to my face, and shouting at me. When he started walking around the room kicking the furniture around, I literally thought that he would hit me. I felt extremely unsafe and disrespected but I remained at the hotel just because I didn't have many nights there left and everything around was...
