I travelled as a solo. Situated in a Hutong down a laneway. Only 4 minutes and around d 3-400 meters flat walk to the closest metro station. Gorgeous wee boutique hotel. You walk through a red door into a cool leafy space. Check in is situated inside with a cafe/eatery which is a flower and leafy filled cool space with natural light flooding the place. Such a beautiful quiet space. The ladies who work here are all very kind and lovely. Their english is limited so use a translate app if you can. Nothing is too much trouble. I had a standard double room, small but perfectly formed room. Modern and clean with all you need. I liked the decor style with pink tiles and tiled floors. If you are staying longer and need more space book a bigger room but there are rooms for all needs. Good shower and modern smart toilet. Comfortable firm beds and good quality bedding. Has all the amenities you need including slippers, electric remote controlled black out curtains, air conditioning etc. Breakfast is included and it's delicious and generous as is the coffee. Nearby is a cafe (SIP) on the corner opposite corner to the the metro station. Jing-A brewing is about 800 metres up the road and worth a visit if you like craft beer and pub food. You are situated central to Beijing and only a couple of kms from the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square etc. Your local metro stop gives you access to the awesome fast and cheap subway metro system.Highly recommend staying at Peking Yard Boutique Hotel. Well priced and great...
Read moreStayed here for two nights to explore the city sights with a friend in a twin room with private bathroom. ||Location - excellent! Short walking distance to a subway line. Taxi can drop off at either end of the hutong, but you do need to walk down the actual hutong (street). In Walking distance to restaurants, we did also walk back from Jingshan Park (20-30 mins walk). ||Room - clean and fairly big bedroom and bathroom. Towels were provided. There is AC. Very quiet. |ALL bathrooms in the hutongs of Beijing have a slight smell from the ancient drainage, it’s nothing to do with the hostel itself ||Food - breakfast and lunch available 7:30 to 15:30. The breakfast was good but very very slow to arrive (about 20 mins for 2 omelettes, no one else had ordered food in the common area)|The second morning we took subway to temple of heaven and had breaki at a bread cafe across the street from subway station / east gate entrance. ||Service - the front desk staff were quite sullen and unfriendly. Asking to buy water, borrow an umbrella, locate luggage storage was a huge effort for them to answer, but that’s part of being a hostel front desk! It wasn’t a language barrier, they could speak English ||FYI WiFi is only available in common area. |Weather and time didn’t permit to use the rooftop terrace. ||Would I stay here again? |Yes I would for location, cleanliness and price, but wouldn’t rely on hostel for food under time pressure or much help...
Read moreThe first thing that hit me upon arrival was the smell. The whole place has a mouldy, damp smell and is very poorly ventilated with some damp issues. ||||I stayed in a shared dorm and a private room. I strongly recommend the private space simply to avoid the awful bathroom situation of a shared room. The toilet, with no window, is so close to the beds and so poorly ventilated that the 15 square meter room (for four people!) cannot handle it. The rooms are substantially different from the picture. The pictures you see on various websites were obviously taken 10 years ago and there has been no renovation since. There is no wifi in the rooms - this is very frustrating when you want to make a phonecall/skype call back home but you have to do it in the busy common area with loud music. ||||The staff seem very unwilling to help. Normally in hostels, I find the staff more personable than in hotels. But it was almost like they went out of their way to be unhelpful on issues like restaurants, getting around and museum tickets. ||||The two redeeming features about this place are the common area and the accessibility. It has a nice lounge space with lots of power sockets, reasonably priced food and drink, please it is within 5 minutes walk of the subway Line 5, which connects you to central Beijing quite easily. You can get to Tiananmen, Wanfujing etc....
