If I could rate this hotel as ‘good’ I would but can’t give it ‘very good’ so it’s graded as average. It was good due to the location next to a subway station and relative proximity to some landmarks. It wasn’t great because: I was woken on my first night at 02.30 due to building work- this went on until 04.30: I called reception to ask what they thought they were playing at and the receptionist didn’t speak English! I had a tour early that day which left at 06.50 and was surprised to see a person asleep in the reception area! I had my tour and complained about the disruption the night before (I was on floor two) and asked to be moved- they granted this but were keen to point out it had nothing to do with them, when a guest at your hotel is woken at 02.30 due to construction work it has a lot to do with you! They moved me to another floor and helped me move but there was a lot of smoking going on in certain rooms on this floor which filtered into my room which I was not happy about especially as it’s supposed to be a non- smoking establishment! Breakfast was very repetitive with the same dishes provided each day, there were a lot of staff in the restaurant but little monitoring of food stations went on with several feral children running around with no discipline. Food was poor. Check in and checkout was smooth. The gym was really useful but was frustrating when I went to use the equipment one night and there was a member of staff stripped down to his vest working out! Cleaning staff were very good and rooms were clean. I wouldn’t stay here again as it as expensive for...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for four nights during our trip to Beijing, using it as a base to visit major attractions like the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City. The location was fine overall—centrally placed enough, but realistically, no matter where you stay in Beijing, you’ll need to travel quite a bit to reach the main sights. While the hotel has some positives, we were left a little disappointed by a few aspects. First, there is no bar, which surprised us given that this is a 5-star hotel. It would have been nice to have somewhere on-site to relax with a drink in the evenings after long days of sightseeing.Another issue was the handling of deliveries. In other hotels we’ve stayed at in China, staff usually place deliveries directly into delivery robots for quick and easy room service. At this hotel, this rarely happened, and we often had to go down to reception ourselves, which felt a bit inconvenient. The biggest issue during our stay was the air conditioning. It was very hot during our time in Beijing, and unfortunately, the room aircon wasn’t strong enough to keep the room cool. We reported this to the staff, and while someone did come to check it, there wasn’t much improvement afterwards.Overall, the hotel is clearly older, and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, we did feel that considering the price, a higher level of comfort and service should be expected. With a few improvements, especially to facilities and room comfort, they could offer a much better...
Read moreWe visited this hotel during a 14 day splendours of China tour with Virgin holidays.||On entering the hotel we were very impressed with the lobby area but from there it got much worse. We were given keys to rooms on level 5. The carpets were filthy and there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke. On entering the rooms we were shocked at the state of them. They smelt of smoking and had chipped paint everywhere and dirty marks on the walls, with very dirty and stained carpets, the bathrooms were in desperate need of refurbishment. There was black mould around the baths and the ||floor tiles were cracked, one of the rooms had bare wires showing in the bedroom. Another of the bedrooms smelt of urine. These rooms were totally unacceptable for a 4star hotel. We refused these rooms but all the rooms offered to us on levels 5,6 and 7 were the same and it wasn’t until we were offered rooms on the executive floor (10) and 11 that we felt comfortable sleeping in them. ||This hotel’s bedrooms need complete refurbishment before anyone is expected to sleep in them. The hotel was not interested in our complaints and should not be used by tour companies until...
