We received a free upgrade to a small suite which was fabulous since there was 3 of us. However, from the beginning, we originally reached out to the hotel asking the ways to get to their location from the airport. There are several options: You could take a shuttle bus which is 24 CNY each way + 13-18 CNY for a taxi. The nearest shuttle bus station stops at west gate of Beijing International Hotel.
Subway station about 30 CNY each way Take subway from T3 to Dong Zhi Men Subway Station. Transfer to subway Line 2 to Jian Guo Men Station and Transfer to Line 1 Wang Fu Jing Station
Or Airport express line (high speed sunway) which is 20 minutes to Dong Zhi Men Station in Central Beijing. The hotel is 15 minutes by taxi. Cost 25 CNY each way
All options, seemed about the same time and I thought the airport express option seemed the best. I will say as this was our first trip to China, it was hard for us to distinguish what were "actual taxis." Unfortunately, there was no idea of cost for the taxi either. We headed to the first taxi who told us "metered" as they all said the same. When we got into the taxi cab, they stated 400 CNY....it seemed awfully high to us for being only 15 minutes away. They eventually brought it down to 50 CNY but at the same time, I had no clue what the appropriate price was. We were clueless of what direction to head to as there were many "Taxis" but we could not find a metered one. As we were tired and it was around 11pm at night we decided to just stay in one of the taxis since we clearly were not finding the correct ones. They all had taxi signs above their vehicles but I never saw a meter. We ended up paying 80 CNY. Many other "taxis" advised 150-200 CNY. We realized the 50 CNY was the better deal, but that driver already left.
So, all in all we found out to look at the license plate which should say Beijing (京) B means they can drive people and is a taxi. They should have a meter for you. However, if they see tourists - they may prefer to try to barter. If we would travel again, we would probably do the subway station option as we the hotel is very close to the subway station. However, if this is at night it might be harder to find. It's maybe a 5 min walk from the hotel to the subway. Our hotel has a large fountain in front of it.
The room was beautiful and clean. They were missing our rollaway cot but quickly brought it up. Whenever we called housekeeping, items would be delivery very quickly! The bed was comfortable and the shower was nice. They had one of the nicest indoor pools I have seen as far as decor and a very large gym! Everything at this hotel was very clean and nice! The only thing we did not like was that they don't have an actual lobby area. They have a lobby that you can sit down at, but if you have a coffee or something from an outside vendor you are not allowed to sit there. Therefore, waiting for our tour company, we could only stand with our coffees in hand instead of waiting somewhere. There was no other waiting area for us. There is no where to sit outside either.
This hotel is nearby a Starbucks, other coffee or breakfast shops and close by to the shopping district. All of this is walking distance. There are plenty of restaurants you can walk to and shop at. They also have a local street food near by across from the KFC in the shopping area called Wangfujing St - you can get an assortment local food for very cheap along with little scorpions.
Overall, this was a very nice hotel to stay at which is nearby the subway, Tiananmen Square and many shops and restaurants! I do wish they provided a little more detail in regards to the options to arrive at their hotel and how to identify a legitimate taxi as it was not fun bartering with the taxis. However, I do not know if our situation would have changed much as I think once they see tourists - they will try to...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at Grand Hyatt Beijing from 12 Sep - 16 Sep 2019. These dates coincide with the rehearsal of the events to be held at Chang An Avenue in anticipation of celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. During the rehearsal, Chang An Avenue was closed off from 14 Sep 5:30 pm till 15 Sep 6:00 am and 15 Sep 5:30 pm till 16 Sep 6:00 am. As hotel guests, we understood the significance of this rehearsal and also made the necessary adjustments to our schedules.
At around 1:30 pm on 15 Sep, Hotel Staff were informed by the Police that the rehearsal that day would be brought forward to 4:30 pm. Staff then posted notices around the hotel and attempted to reach hotel guests by calling their rooms. They also tried calling guests who have a China phone number (+86) in their records.
As tourists, it is understandable that we do not have a China phone number and were hence, not informed of the change in rehearsal timing. Because of this, we were stranded on the streets and in the middle of the barricaded area when we reached Chang An Avenue at 4:45 pm. We had to walk for nearly 2 hours to get out of the restricted zone and eventually managed to book another night stay at Double Tree by Hilton.
When we returned to Grand Hyatt the next morning, Hotel Staff (Daisy and Gilbert Chen) merely told us they were only notified by the Police last minute (3 hours beforehand?) and it was out of their ability to inform all guests who were not in the hotel at that time.
As an International 5 star Hotel Chain, is Grand Hyatt not equipped to contact International guests who do not have a China phone number? An email would also suffice as we could have re-routed to not enter the restricted zone if we were not able to make it back by 4:30pm. This really left us with an extremely bad experience and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Think twice if you are expecting decent service from them.
Read moreEverything in regards to our stay at the Grand Hyatt was 6* except for the WiFi which wasn't of international standards.Location was spot on a central network linked to the mall with major big brands Which is linked to the 1st class train system. It's also 30mins walk to the Forbidden city. And the gym 🏋️♀️ and Pool and Spa was simply immaculate and luxurious first class with a heated pool oasis. Wished I could have spent more time enjoying the facilities. And what complimented well to the global luxurious brand was it's staff members!I have to call out the exceptional 2 departments Conceige and Housekeeping which was truly above and beyond!!!Daniel -assisted with restaurant bookings and forbidden City tickets reservations. And when he was off duty he still wechat me to suggest how to maximise the use of our tickets and best way to maximise time to visit Tianamen Square too and tips too on best way all this while he was off duty!Such dedication!!!Another staff whom I like to recognise is Cecila also from Conceige. When asked for directions on day 1, she didn't just verbalise, she left her station and ushered us all the way outside and showed us the right way around to our breakfast destination. On day 2, which is also check out day, she realised its J birthday and made arrangments for not 1 but 2 bakes so that our dearest friends could enjoy together too. She also kept in touch on wechat to organise all our logistical arrangments several times. Each time with a 😃 smile. Outstanding!Housekeeping lady for rooms 1221 and 1220 was simple though and detailed and went above and beyond too. So much personal touch to all that she did which most would never bother!Good job!! And best of all, she didn't expect anything in return. Absolutely admirable! Unsung hero!Check in staff Allan was pleasant and swift with our late check in and made our final day breakfast logistics seamless. Thank you and thanks for responding efficiently on wechat too.Con- WiFi sucks badly.....surprised that a 5* global brand couldn't keep u to. Chengdu 4* service Residence. So frustrating for global travellers like ourselves.Hope the next time we stay here sky guo would have fixed this feedback! Alongside with ensuring that luke warm pre made coffee will not be served.Absolutely charming...
